this is a strange problem i've been having, and it has me stumped as to wether the cause is nero or my burner. i tried to burn a cd rom (iso) disc of mp3's the other day, but when i checked to see if it worked, both my drives said it was a blank disc. i could see where the info had been written on the bottom of the cd-r, but there was an unusually large gap of unwritten space from the center of the cd-r and where it began to write. i looked at other cd-r's i had made and the gap was not there.
so i burned a dvd-r, and it came out fine. i burned some jpegs onto another cd-r and they came out fine. i burned just a few mp3's to yet another cd-r and they came out fine. i tried to burn a multisession cd-r and the same problem occurred, but between the first session and the second session. a big gap, and my drives won't read beyond that gap to the second session. i don't know what could be causing this. i just wanted to know if anyone has experienced this problem before, if it is a laser out of alignment or a problem with nero. thanks for any help you guys can provide.

your Nero logfile is in c:\program files\ahead\nero\nerohistory.log if you want to paste here. All burns are appended to it so pls post last section of log MINUS the serial number which usually begins with '1A21' or similar (the serial number will help you differentiate between sections of logfile, ie sections between each burn session). The logfile should be sufficient but it might also be worth verifying one or more of your media with dvdinfopro (free download from www.dvdinfopro.com). Run the disc thru it's media info check and paste that here too..

You've probably just got some issues with your setup that need tweaking

- download latest version of ASPI layer here - http://www.afterdawn.com/software/cdr_software/cdr_tools/aspi.cfm

Nero Version: 5.5.10.7
- wow that's real old

Recorder: <ASUS DVD-RW DRW-0402P> Version: 1.30
- your firmware is old (2003) but up to date. There's talk here - http://forum.rpc1.org/dl_firmware.php?download_id=1571 of using Pioneer DVR-105 firmware for this drive but i followed the link and the firmware for that seems to be dated 2002. So i'd leave this alone i guess. Just keep in mind that this drive won't recognise newer media too well

- 512MB is plenty enough, but something's using most if it up. free up more by closing more applications

- you're not Finalising the disc. I don't know an awful lot about multisession as did all of one multisession disc about 5yrs ago and didn't see a need for it back then.

- i'm not too hot on decoding Nero logs with regard to CD's but i'd hazard a guess that the drive doesn't like those discs

- i'm not sure about this driver as i'm more familiar with versions 6.x.x.x of Nero, a quick check here states this driver is probably ok - http://www.neuber.com/taskmanager/process/nerocheck.exe.html

well, i just installed CD BURNER XP PRO 3 to give it a try and see if the problem lies with Nero. unfortunately, i got the same results with that program. gonna try and update Nero to 5.5.10.56 and quit everything but Nero to see if that helps.
is it possible i could have the laser lens out of alignment? i would think that would affect the dvd burning as well, but that is going on fine. thanks for all your help.

i think the last update of Nero version 5 that i used previously was 5.5.10.78, but my dvd burner wasn't supported so i bought version 6.
However hardware problem is always a possibility, or a simple cleaning out of the air/cobwebs!, however don't discount the media being a cause, you would not believe how many people have so many problems due mainly to media. good luck and let us know your progress
