I have been using a Liteon SOHW 812s with updated firmware and Nero to
burn DVD-R's for the past year with very good to great results, depending on the media, of course.
Lately, I have been experiencing buffer flux (is that a new band?)
and since I kprobe virtually every burn, I have definately noticed a jump in PIF's as well. The buffer in Nero (the one in the little bar, not the one next to the 'amt completed' bar) stays at 98% until about 60% of the way thru then it starts dancing...never below 92% but still...

I use Verbatims and TY's, usually the Verbs were hanging around 80-100 PIF and now they are in the 500's, the 8x Fuji TY's were usually 10 odd PIF and now it's around 100-odd.

Sign of a burner going or what? And if I wanted to actually try to clean the lens manually, how would I get the case open?

TIA...
