the sony uses a regular desktop cpu whereas the 1 you are looking at is the mobile version which haven't caught up to the desktop in speed

That Pentium M will be faster than a 3.06 Ghz Pentium 4

edit: well, I shouldn't say that- it's only somewhat true

It's faster clock for clock than the P4- same reason why an Athlon 64 FX-55 (2.6Ghz) will beat most P4's at most things

Give the full specs of your current laptop and I will be able to tell you which I would personally take

Also see link in my above post

Long story short: Apprx. 9 months ago my wife sent me an e-mail from her IT guy. $750.00 off on a DELL Laptop. Did not need it then. Since then my wife broke/dropped her Laptop. The coupon had expired. A friend in work who I mentioned this to, found a bunch of sites that have similar offers. They come and they go. ie sell out fast. I used another $750 off code on a 1.6m Centrino , ,756 mb ram ,DL DVD burner, wireless etc.for just about $800 after the coupon. I paid the same or $100 -$150 more than they sell stripped out 1.3 ghz Celeron laptops around here. If you are ready to buy move fast , my coupon got used up in 3 hours. The coupon is usually limited to the first 5000 sales.

Heres one coupon ,includes Free Shipping :

$750 OFF on Select Inspiron Notebook Purchases $1899+ Restrictions
Coupon Code: R0BT?B4?65SHF7
Expire Date: 7/13/2005

Here is the website :

what are you using it for?

Also go for a 7200rpm drive instead of the slower 5400, if you decide to get the upgrade

But if I were you, I'd stay with the one you have now. IMO it's not worth the $1000+ for a questionable improvement

7200 revolutions per minute compared to 5400 revolutions per minute.
the pentium m is the mobile versiom of the regular pentium chip in that it uses less power so the battery lasts longer

Go to the Tomshardware link and decide for yourself which chip is best suited to you

If I really had to choose, I'd take the P-M because it's better for games (my main concern) and gets you longer battery life... but then again I'd rather have neither since I use desktop AMD's mostly

But for video, P4 is definetly best, internet doesn't really matter what you have (I do fine on my old 900Mhz Athlon, 384MB), and the P-M is better for your games (not sure about it at lower clocks though... look at the benchmark comparisons on the THG link)

Definetly 7200rpm though, for vid editing and fast load times

Also what GFX chip do you have now? Depending on what games you play the 6200 geforce might not cut it
