Nero storing phantom files on hard drive

Everytime I copy a dvd with nero more of my hard drive is taken up. When the burning is done, it doesn't release the files. I have searched the entire disk and cannot find anything anywhere. The strange thing is that when I look at the properties for all the folders on my c: drive they add up to 36GB. I have an 80GB hard drive. When I go to the hard drive properties, it shows the I only have 4GB of free space. I've tried using Jam and it shows the same thing. I can't figure out where the space is being taken. Any help would be great!!!

Start -> Search -> Enter "VIDEO_TS" if you are burning files, .iso if you are burning images. That should give you the location of your missing files.

I'm not ripping it, I'm doing a direct copy from disc to disc.

So what do you suppose is being left behind that is filling up your hard drive? Nero is caching the video on your hard drive during the burn process.

I understand that. But the file that Nero is using for cache has a .nrg extension. That file is being erased but the space is not being returned to my drive.

Take a look at this thread and see if any of it applies. they talk about Norton's protected recycle bin among other things.

Nero usually gives you the option to delete the files after you are done with them. The last thing you need is to fill your hard drive up with empty space that you can't access after deleting the files.

also try this trial software - treesize pro - you can right click in windows explorer on, say your hard drive, and quickly and easily narrow down to where the (big) files are - http://www.jam-software.com/treesize/download.shtml

having same problem i tried tree size and no joy i have had this problem before back in 98 when i was burning cd's and i was using Nero then finally found the files.

i have used 15gb of space so far and dont have a clue were the hell it is lol. did you get anywere.
