Post the exact model number for your Samsung burner. Maybe someone here can tell you if it supports changing booktype. Alternatively you can 'google' your burner to try to find out yourself.
DVDD is no longer supported so if your burner supports this function you will have to find a utilty program to do it for you. Most if not all manufacturers provide such utilities to do this. Use of such a utility is usually a better choice since the setting is usually retained regards of which burn programs are used.

couldn't find what i was looking for. What i am trying to ask is, i burn dls and they do not play on my dvd player. I know u can change the booktype, by using dvd decrypter, when i go and change it there is no option for my samsung. Is there a program out there where i can change it? Or do i have to change the type of blank media i am using, i am currently using memorex dvd+r dl? Thanks

You are correct (as is arnibear), I overlooked that you wanted to use DL. Per the article single layer DVD+R media is supported. No program can do what you want to do if your burner will not support it. Maybe Ssmsung will (if they can) modify the firmware for this drive to support setting booktype on +R DL disks.
Changing the media will not allow you to change +R DL to DVD-ROM type.
Are you sure of the reason your player won't read the disks you made. What is the Model number of your player? What media does it support?

I would like to start by saying thanks a bunch. You guys are the advil to this headache i have. From what i heard verbatim have a higher chance of being compatible with dvd players than others, the dls play just fine on my cheap player. I have a samsung hd841, i read up on it i found out that it does support rw+- and dls i think it plays rw just fine. The irony of samsung giving me the headache is funny.thanks again guys. All in all i just don't want to loose the quality by shrinking the file, i am a big audio and video buff cant help it.

Ok, in our efforts to help quickly there seem to be some confusion. The review article( http://www.cdfreaks.com/article/203/7 )states the DVD+R to DVD-ROM bitsetting is supported in this burner. Further states that the Nero/Pinnacle package must be updated. Does not seem to distinguish between Single and DL media.
Another link discusses the topic but only mentions DVD+R, does not reference DL.
jrrossi46,
Read all of these references and try to see if you can change the DL media to DVD-ROM. Per the review I believe that the nevessary software is included with your drive.
good Luck and regards

The player seems to be a good one;
http://www.bytesector.com/data/bs-article.asp?ID=364 But it sometimes turns out the the cheapest players have the least problems with various media. I would not give up yet getting the DL to work on it.
BTW you can always 'split' the movies into two DVD5 disks, this allows full quiality at a much cheaper cost the using DL discs.

Reading the entire thread ( http://club.cdfreaks.com/showthread.php?t=117071&page=2 ) referenced by arniebear indicates that the DVD+R DL bitset to DVD_ROM works. You may have to update your firmware and or the Nero/Pinnacle software and do what you want to try. Let us know if you can and if that allow you player to read the disks.
As a separate issue the Verbatim 'Datalife' and'Datalife Plus' media is quite good.

What is your Firmware version, per the review you need US06 or later to support bit set feature. It also says you need to update the Pinnacle/Nero software that came with the unit to the latest version.
Here is is link to the latest F/W;
http://forum.rpc1.org/dl_result.php?kaj=1&isces you can also check the Samsung site if you prefer.

US06 is the most recent US version of the Firmware released. The link works here, just put your burner model number in the search field and select search. Your firmware must be this version before Pinnacle/Nero will be able to set DVD-ROM for DVD+R media.
Here is another site for Samsung f/w;
http://www.cdrinfo.com/Sections/Firmware/SingleModel.aspx?DriveId=1029 Note that there is a flash utility available at either site that you will probably need to update the f/w. Check your user manual for any specific instructions.

i struggled with this for a while, only solution is to upgrade to US06 firmware and Nero 6.6.0.13
Then you will be able to set booktype. you'll see.

Quote: i am currently using memorex DVD+R dl
If bitsetting doesn't solve your playback issues I would suggest trying some better media. Memorex is known to be a problem child. The playback problem could be entirely due to poor quality media. Give use the manufacturer useing this free proggy. http://dvd.identifier.cdfreaks.com/ You could also try some verbatum or ritek DL media.

ouch...the reason MIGHT be the media...memorex is definitely NOT a good way to go for DL media...try the Verbatims...they are MUCH better...
Memorex DVD+R 8.5GB PHILIPS.CD2 2.4x
(i personally have NEVER had good success with anything philips related, i have NOT used a memorex DL disc yet, so i can't judge it without ever trying it, but from the Memorex dvds i HAVE used..they ALL sucked)
and all the aforementioned firmware/software updates would be a good start...good luck.
