Hello, and thanks in advance for your patience with a rank newbie.

I just got my first DVD burner (nothing fancy, an I/O magic 16x) and installed the Nero suite software that came with it.

I'm particularly interested in transferring clips from TV news & documentaries onto DVD. I've successfully captured the clips, and I started using NeroVision Express to create (is author the right word?) custom DVDs, with menus, etc.

My problem arises when I try to burn a completed Nero project file to a DVD... the process is exceedingly slow. I created a DVD with about 40 minutes of content (MPEG format) in two chapters, and finally shut the process down after more than 3 hours, with little progress indicated. During the burning process, my CPU was maxed out, even though I shut down all other applications and non-essential processes.

I haven't had any problems burning DVDs with DVD Shrink, and Nero's Disk to Disk Copy also worked well.

My system stats:
1.6 GHz Athlon, 768 Meg RAM, 2 x 80Gig hard drives, Win XP SP 2.

Any thoughts on how I can speed up this process? Or, are there any suggestions for products that can perform the same tasks but more efficiently? (I'm willing to spend a little dough on software.)

Thanks again for any pointers you can offer, but please keep in mind I'm just a dilletante.

Mike B.
