ps2 laser corrupting TDK DVD-R backups

I have a PS2 v12 and after burning backup on TDK DVD-R @ 1x with DVD Decrypter, the discs play perfectly but after 5 or 6 uses, the disc comes out with dark and light purple rings on dye side and refuses to load normally. The loading times have increased 3x longer.......could it be the laser of the ps2 corrupting the discs. Or maybe bad media....but TDK media code TTG01 supposed to be of best quality.....im using Swap magic 3.6 with magic switch pro....Any help please......thanks in advance !!!!!!! ;)

I tested this with 2 games....Juiced and GTA - San Andreas.....

possibly I have been using tdk 8x DVD-R and they work fine all copies seems to play perfect.. have you tired clean your laser??

i tried cleaning the laser, still doesnt play. when i put in the original, it works perfectly ! im convinced its the media.....no more TDK for me.....Anybody know where i can buy Ritek G04 or Taiyo Yuden from any reliable online source ???

To clean a laser you buy a cleaning kit - or do it yourself, but that means taking the burner and/or player apart. LOL.

I would suggest trying one of these before you blacklist the media itself.

If you are in the US, you can browse Compusa, Officedepot or Bestbuy websites for these kits.

Compusa carries a Fellowes product - Fellowes #99769.
This is a disc which you insert into the drawer and it plays for about 3 minutes. If you look closely, there are what appears to be 5 very small globs of silicon glue on the upper face. These probably contact and clean the laser lens surface. I have this, it seems to work.

Another product is made by some company called Pelican - barcode number 08056 59001 - no other number present anywhere on the box.

Memorex also makes a product but I do not know the number.

If you can get one of these, run it thru the machine a couple of times.

seems alot of people been having trouble with their magic switch causing reading problems lately.they dont seem to cover the sensors properly and cause some read problems.you might want to check your magic switch first.maybe put some black electrical tape over the peices that cover the sensors.the peice that wedges into the hinge has a sensor that you would have to take off the cover to get at.if you dont want to take off the cover then make sure that peice is seated all the way down.

slims are relatively new so it shouldnt have major read problems.and alot of people have had read problems recently with slims and magic switches so it makes sense that the magic switch is the culprit in alot of these situations.
