Here's just a general question because I'm a curious kid. I want to know why burnt PS2 games don't boot on their own. If a copied game has the EXACT SAME files as the original disc, then why don't they function exactly the same? What does the original disc have that a copied disc doesn't that allows it to boot?

Ps2 DVD's are pressed with a code on them that the Ps2 needs to read b4 it can boot it, it's so the Ps2 knows it's real. Burnt media does not have this code so therefore the Ps2 knows it's not the real thing and will not boot.

aye aye man

So does that mean that somehow Swap Magic discs have the code duplicated? Does this mean that Swap Magic discs were specially created to be booted on the PS2?

PS2 games are actually pressed DVD/CD discs, they are not burned. PS2 games use the Burst Cutting Area (BCA) of the disc to identify themselves to the PS2 unit. The BCA is not part of a disc that you can burn on, it is only replicated on pressed discs.

So, the only way to play backups is to get boot-discs or a mod-chip. And yes swap magic is just for the ps2 and they work great, Best thing I ever bought
