I created several DVD-R movie disks on my Sony RDR-VX500 recorder. They play fine on all DVD players, but not on every PC. I have tried several PCs and several different player programs. It comes up with the main menu to play (I call it the Sonata menu), but does not play the movie. I used the "show information" screen in AnyDVD and it says "Found and removed wrong DVD structure" which implies something isn't right. If I try to copy it with CloneDVD, it says I am missing the first .bup file (I can see it in Windows Explorer. It's there).

It gets weirder. I did get it to play on one PC with both the internal DVD player and my external USB player. If I take that same player to another computer running the same OS (XP Pro), same player program, it doesn't work.

Another weird one. In trying to find a pc program that would read it, I downloaded the trial version of PowerDVD. It worked. When I downloaded the full version and paid for it, it didn't work.

DVD+R works fine by the way. It's not the PC players since I can play other DVD-R movies created via PC.

It sounds like the .bup file is corrupted on these machines. I take it that DVD players don't use this file? I saw a similar thread on another forum, so I know it's not me.

Something I hadn't considered...Since I can play it on one PC, is it possible that it is my version of DirectX? It may make sense that it is an underlying piece of software like this. Thoughts?

What mode on your DVD recorder did you use to record these disks? VR mode or Video mode?

Also, it is the second BUP file that it says that it can't find (D:/VIDEO_TS/VTS_02_0.BUP. This is consistent on every disk created. I really just want some verification that it is the recorder and not something on my PC's.

Also, I am running DirectX 9.0C on all machines, so that probably isn't it.

What kind of blank media you're using? Have you updated your dvd-rom or dvd burner's firmware lately? You might want to consider this, just a note that's all.

WARNING: Do not "update/upgrade" your SAMSUNG BD-D5XXX series (Bluray Player), or else you cant enjoy any of your movie files.

I don't think that is it since I can take a USB drive and move it between PC's. The problem does not happen on 1 PC but does on 2 others. Does anyone know if DVD players/decks use/look at .BUP files or just PC's with PC software?

Did you finalize the disks on your DVD recorder? If not you won't be able to read them in other players/DVD ROMS...
