Soldering- This means you have to solder wires from the Mod Chip to your PS2 board, and its good to have very steady hands to do that, or have a pro do it.

It has 12 wires i think.

I reccomend the DMS4 EZI PRO its a non-solder chip.

DMS4 E.Z.I. PRO Chip specs:

The SOLDERLESS REVOLUTION has arrived. DMS4 E.Z.I Professional offers amateur coders and developers the ability to boot "Homebrew" applications on their console, for development purposes. Furthermore DMS4 Pro allows you to watch Multi-region DVD's on your system. Compatibility is comprehensive (PAL/JAP/USA V5-V11). The DMS4 E.Z.I. Pro has all the features of the standard DMS4 E.Z.I, further it boasts enhanced security, larger flash memory (2MB for storage of Homebrew Apps) and will have extra features added in software at no extra cost in future update builds. All this from a 100% SOLDERLESS, CLIP ON, PLUG and PLAY solution!

100% Solderless

Use the advanced Japanese precision micro molded interconnects and our unique eject signal adapter to provide reliable connection to the main E.Z.I. module.

Auto-detect and boot of all media types

DMS4 will automatically detect whether a PS1, PS2 CD-R, DVD-R, DVD+R, DVD-RW, DVD9 or DVD+RW (Homebrew Elf's), original domestic CD/DVD is inserted and then boot it without any interaction from the user.

High capacity flash

We now use a 2MB flash in our design to accomodate future flash upgrades with enhancements and extra integrated features.

Unrivaled boot success rate and compatibility

The boot rate of DMS4 is nigh on 100%. The DMS4 Supports V5-V11 USA, JAP and PAL

Flash upgrade via CD

The popular CD flash upgrade first introduced by DMS3 and has been retained offering a choice of firmware upgrade options.

DVD region Free with RCE support.

Watch all region DVD movies on your PS2.

Colour Fix

Force the colour mode to your choice.

Screen Fix

Green screen removed for Playback of DVD Movies.

DEV.olution Mode 1

Load appliactions and software from your PS2 Memory card using our specially integrated DEV.olution mode.

DEV.olution Mode 2

Load applications and software from your PS2 HDD using our specially integrated software. DEV.olution 2 is the successor to DEV.olution 1 mode.

Software Modchip disable

Disable the Modchip in software by pushing Square on the Joypad.

Truly Intelligent Modchip

The E.Z.I. range of Modchips use an advanced Logic design and LED staus display panel to detect and indicate the connection of each patching line and the patching signal integrity. This is a World's first!

Package contents:

BIOS clip 50 pin Gap/No Gap x1
DSP clip 208 pin x1
Eject PCB assembly V9/v10 x1
Eject PCB assembly V5-V8 x1
E.Z.I. LED Test panel X1

No Probs. Ohh well, but if you do end up getting a new one the DMS 4 EZI PRO is pretty good.

Also Welcome to Afterdawn, hope your stay is fun :)

don't make the same mistake i made. I bought a duo 2 se chip for $22 including shipping. Solder iron $11. opened up the ps2, broke the fan clip. worse of all, found out it is too hard to solder anything since it takes a steady hand and incredible eyes to solder those very tiny tiny points. Can't even put it back together right. I am sending it out for pro mod. It is only $45 for install or $60 with duo 2 se chip and the shipping is included. Save yourself the pain and send it out. If you use the solderless chip, be carefull when you unplug the fan clip. It breaks off more often than people think.

Hmm 40$ to 60$ is preaty steap for my budget but ill keep that in mind i dont mind so so much trying my best to solder it because my ps2 is not at 100% health. Hopefully I'll get it the first time. foraminal can you tell me exacly how did you break the ps2 fan so i dont make that mistake how did you open it and stuff? Thanks foraminal for the opinion appreciate that ;-)

I opened the box as instructed by the online manual. When they say gently pull the fan plug, be real carefull. worse case is you have to solder it back. but the pics on the website that tells you where to solder is blown up big. It looks simple but it is not. I end up burning the board, countertop sink, and my fingers. Let the pro do it. Cost only $45 with your chip or $60 with their duo 2 SE. Go with the duo 2 se. The others are just expensive although you not need to do anything special when it comes to dual layer games. But how many dual layers game are there? A few, 3-5, but you can always patch it with a toxic patcher and it works with the duo 2 se.
DMS4 solderless. Just because it is solderless does not mean easy. You still have to open the box and unplug ribbons/cables ect....
If I have to do it all over again, I would buy a new premod PS2 slim for $200.
