Okay I've been browsing these forums and some others on backing up PS2 games for awhile now, and I see all this stuff about dvd decrypter and patching of isos etc. I see people having problems with backing up games. What instances is dvd decrypter and all this other stuff I've read needed? I do nothing more than pop in the DVD of a game and goto nero and hit "copy dvd", that's it and it always comes out and is perfect and works perfect. I also burn at 8x all the time and the games don't skip and audio sounds fine, I've read others say to burn at 2x?

What I'm asking is why is everyone making this sound so complicated when it's nothing more than popping in a disk and pushing copy? Is there something I am missing, are you guys creating disks that can play on unmodded unflip-topped/swamp magic'd ps2s? My ps2 is flip top with swap magic 3.6 by the way.

Sorry I just don't understand what all this extra stuff I'm reading about is used for when the way I do it is so much easier and works.

alot of games can be copied easily by using your backup option on your burn software.but there are games that will give you trouble.your computer is also different than others so copying games may be easier for you.my burner cant burn no higher than 4x so if you told me to copy games at 8x i wouldnt gat any games to copy right.in laymens terms your burner is probably different than alot of others too.and the discs you use may be highly compatible with your burner.there are alot of reasons why you are having an easier time copying games but the major fact is not everybody has the setup you have.

have you copied shadow of rome?there are alot of games you might have not copied yet that will give you trouble.how about nba street v3?name some noteable games that you have copied.i too copy alot of games just by using the backup option on my burn software and have had success but there are some games that wouldnt work that way.

Dude...not all ps2 games copy that easy, look at "god of war", the hardest game to copy so far, you need like 6 programs to copy the damn thing and in the end you dont get everything on the original game, i got the feeling sum fool is gonna wreck god of war, so i wonna back it up and hide the original in a safe vault,

Well god of war is one of the games I copied using this method and it works fine. I didn't have to do any of the things listed on the sticky. I actually have NBA Street V3 so I might try to back it up just to see if it works with my usual method and see if it gives me any problems. Other games I've copied with success are Killer7, arc the lad, splinter cell chaos theory, juiced, jakIII, area 51,espn nba, Devil may cry 3, dynasty tactics 2, psychonauts, dynasty warriors 5, final fantasy x-2, disgaea, digital devil saga, star ocean, stella deus, katamari demacy, evil prophecy, crimson tears and phantom brave.

95% of what you said is true and I totally agree with you. However, you said; your PS2 is a flip top modded with Swap Magic 3.6. Now can you back up "GT4" and "GOD OF WAR" on a dvd5(single dvd-r/+r) on Nero using "copy dvd" without any rebuild process or patches? Please elaborate this cause I sure am would love to know.

ah...yeah,god of war is a double layer game and would have to be copied to a double layer disc which swap magic isnt able to play.i dont know, your story aint adding up.then also, you would have to consider alot of people dont even have a double layer burner even if it was possible to play double layer backups on swap magic.

My burner can burn dual layer discs, I've burned god of war this way. I tried gran turismo before but didn't know it was a dual layer game and didn't have a dual layer disc handy. After Nero created the image it said insert proper media of course, so I wasn't able to try that one.

well first of all your asking why it is so hard for people to copy games when they dont have a double layer burner.i dont have a double layer burner.am i suppose to go out and get a double layer burner to make it easier?then go buy dl dvdrs priced at $10 a disc and hope not to burn a coaster on my first try?

second of all,you are claiming that swap magic will play a double layer backup when the makers of swap magic themselves say it is not possible.i cant play a game over 4.3gb without refreshing the toc(i usually rebuild these games).and a double layer game is way over that size.you must have the real magical swap magic discs that nobody else has.

I did try V3 like you suggested though and it didn't work using my method, It's the only one though. It hung on the initial loading screen. Also the image creation stage that nero goes through did seem to take a lot longer with v3 than any others I've tried.

So, basically you burnt/backed up G.O.W on a DVD9 or is it on a DVD5 disc using Nero on "Copy DVD"? I doubt it, unless it's already an backed up copied or an already rebuild 4.3GB of files from the internet only. How can this works on Swap Magic 3.6 and Flip Top if it's a straight DL backed up copy? How did you do it? Care to do some explanation? Cheers now.... :-)

Hummm.... Again, I'm curious to know how did you managed to play GOD with your Flip Top and Swap Magic 3.6?

I, myself, owned a SONY DRU 710A BYX4 DL burner, and I've been backing up PS2 games since I joined "afterdawn.com" 5 months ago. However, I can tell you that GT4 is not your ordinary game that you can just press the copy and then play. For more information on GT4 back up, please pay a visit to this thread http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/190104 -- of course doing DL back up is super easy as "smoking", but the reality is, can it load/boot with your Swap Magic 3.6? Again, cheers now... :-)

Its not that easy.. Sure you may have had some luck at the beguining with copying games which dont require to be patched.

But (really) backing up games takes time, patients, effort and experience. Its not as simple as just clicking copy, major coperations have designed methods which make what you say impossible and we have come up with techniques to combat them. There is no easy way out of this, but it makes it all the more fun when you do actually finally back up your game. Like God Of War, (wow that felt good)

So sorry to be sketpic, but i dont believe you've copied GOW.

(This comment is not aimed to be offensive at all, so i appoliges if it comes across as so.)

@zer033,

Again, as much as I'd love to agree with you 95% completely on this. However, can you drop a "tutorial" on how to back up GT4, GOW and any ordinary games that's over 4.5GB without using any "rebuilding" steps?

Please... that would be so kind of you. Here is a link to the GT4 working on a 100% successful on a single DVD5 (dvd-r/+r) disc. Sad but true..... all progress seems "negative" so far. Feel free to go here; http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/201853 and add in anything/any knowledge you're willing to help. Cheers now. :-)
