Have you scanned for viruses?

i really doubt its a virus, because christof1 said that "it sometimes gets to he operating system then re-boots again". The way im interpreting that is, it is getting the the windows loading screen and while it loads, it restarts. I believe that the OS needs to be fully loaded for a virus to be functional.
But if you think it is a virus, try leaving your computer in Safe Mode and see if it still shuts down. If it doesnt then it possibly is a virus, if it does then it may be something else.
Another possibility is your PSU (Power Suppy Unit), it may not be powerfull enough, how many watts is it?
Another possibility is the computer's temperature, but you said that the temp is fine.

Well he said he has new PSU and temp's were fine... Tends to lead more towards virus if you ask me. :-)

Hi Chistof1 -
I had exactly the same thing happening today, but it took a while to isolate the cause because my PC is a new build & I'd added memory, installed various things and so on. Anyway, turned out my problem was installation of Windows SP2. Did a System Restore & no problem. This is weird, though, as you'd think my system would be fine with SP2 (on top of XP Pro).
Anyway, WITH SP2 I got random restarts and a "Windows has recovered from a serious error" message:
BCPI : 0000000D BCP2 : 00000000 BCP3 : 00000000 BCP4 : 00000000
OSVer : 5_1_2600 SP : 2_0 Product : 256 : 1
The "256" bit made me think it was a bad RAM module, as I'd seen a "768" in the same position in someone else's error message posted on a forum somewhere.
Anyway, I nearly didn't bother about it as, after the first reboot, everything would be fine after the error message. Just worried about instability in my new system, though, so at the mo' I'm happy to live with SP1 & some KB updates.
System spec is:
1.5 GB RAM (bog standard PC 2700)
AMD 64 3500+ (Venice core, stock)
Abit AV8 3rd Eye mobo (Via chipset)
1 x Maxtor 120 GB hdd
1 x Hitachi/IBM Deskstar 160 GB hdd
Sapphire Radeon X800 XL (AGP, stock)
MSI CDRW
Sony DRU DVD RW (x4)
Mesh midi case w/ HEC 385W psu
oh, and an fdd! :)
Hope this helps,
Mike

Update & doh!
just found out on the ZoneAlarm site that any version of ZoneAlarm below 5.1 will cause this problem if run on a 64 bit system with SP2. Looks like I can re-install SP2 & avoid the re-booting problem so long as I update from the ancient 3.7 version of ZA I was using.
I thought it was memory, too, and tried all my RAM dimms in every which way.
Anyway, at the moment I'm still on ZA 3.7, SP1 & everything's running just fine. May update ZA later & see if SP2 will work.
Sorry Christof1 - this can't be yr prob/solution as your Barton is 32 bit. No help after all :)
Regards
Mike

I am having similar problems too with the sudden restarts! I recently bought a 160gb Maxtor HDD and threw it in my machine, booted, initalized, partioned and formatted and everything was fine...the next day I was browsing the mighty AD forums and my machine just restarted. It happened 2 or 3 more times that week also. Could it be because I added the new HDD and I don't have enough power?
Could someone help me out?

i had the same problem with the newly build amd 64 3000+. after installing SP2 it won't boot up to windows. the last thing it showed was the win xp loading screen (2 seconds into loading). however, i was able to boot up in safe mode. i end up re-installing windows xp pro and fire up SP1 then SP2 and now running smoothly. (could not installing SP1 first be the factor?)
