I had no previous problems ever with Nero and just 2 days ago, it would start to burn my disc, go quickly to 8 or 10% and then sit for a long time before continuing and finishing the disc. Now, it doesnt even do that.
It cancels the burn due to an unknown error.
Furthermore, I ran the info tool and it said that two of my 4 components for my ASPI driver were missing or have gone missing.
I did download the ASPI drivers from the Nero site and will install those later as I am at work now. Are there any other paths of support I should investigate? Thanks.
PS - I am using WinXP Pro.

easiest way is to post LAST section of Nero log - it's in c:\program files\ahead\nero\nerohistory.log. make sure to NOT post your serial number, which usually begins with '1A21' or similar.
Also download dvdingopro (free from www.dvdinfopro.com) and run one of the discs thru it's media info check and paste results here.
it could be a few different things, such as burn speed, crap media, downrev burner firmware etc etc

I appreciate the advice. I was wondering where people got the error log files from. Ill post that when I get home. Thanks again.

- not sure if DMA should be on for that last entry - that's a virtual drive from Alocohol 120% i think. try this anyway - http://home.comcast.net/~bbmayo/FAQ.htm

- your drive doesn't like that media. it could be down to bad media, or the DMA settings, or maybe both..

I did as it said to restore the DMA's but everything was fine so I did the "it cant hurt" section of uninstalling and reinstalling my IDE drivers. When I reboot, windows says it cannot finish installing the software for the IDE channels because the driver was not made for this platform.

i have the exact same problem
i have formatted my system so many times but nothing sorts it.
i have bought a new burner (pioneer 109) and updated the firmware and i have updated the bios on the mboard and updated the ide drivers to the latest ones. always the same thing. it gets to a certain spot usually about 8% then it stops thinks about it for a bit and will then either continue or fail and lock up.
here is my latest log from nero

A reformat later with ASPI and IDE controllers all working fine, the problem still remains.
I believe now it is the media. I am using...dramatic pause....Memorex.
I never knew the quality was so bad as I found out reading numerous posts here. I had used it very successfully in the past.
The funny thing is, I was able to successfully burn a couple DVD's today fine with Memorex discs but the Audio CD burning still hangs at 8 percent.
Maybe its just the Memorex CD-R media?

Hello everyone.
NeroVision often hangs during burning EVEN WHEN burning to the HARD-DRIVE (which I've resorted to since I'm sick and tired of wasting DVDR's and recycling DVDRW's). So the problem with Nero and Nerovision is NOT MEDIA-based. nor is it burning-speed-based.
I am stil hoping someone can figure this out. There's not much out there that works as well and as fast and as easy as Nero, WHEN Nero DOES WORK! However, how it stands right now, Nero really sucks!

@fdr - as i've just said in the other thread - look to see if that Nero patch helps, and need more of a logfile (not in thread though, in the other thread)

Also, it has come to my attention that there is no problem when I burn DVD's, only with audio CD-R's. I am using Memorex for both.
I tried using one of my buddy's Precision brand CD'R's but it gave me the same problem.

the problem is not media
i have tried 8 different types including premium verbatim and i have the same problem. i have updated the firmware to 1.57 - same thing.
i took the pioneer dvr 109 back to the shop and swapped it for a brand new one - same thing.
i tried burning at 4x - same thing.
i have reformatted many times and tried without adding any windows uodates and then with - same thing.
i have ran memory tests which show no problems.
the only thing left really is driver conflicts or the motherboard is faulty.

firmware - i havent upgraded the firmware because the shop that swapped my drive told me that the only reason they were swapping it was because pioneer had told them that their firmware (1.55 + 1.57) was faulty and not to go above 1.50
ritek - i am only using ritek again now for economy. i have also burnt 10 each of traxdata, verbatim data life plus, datawrite etc. using go4, go5 and mcc lead ins. all had the same result. i know ritek are not the best and there are a lot of fakes around too, but if the problem was purely media the fault would occur at diffferent places and not on the same % each time.
speed - i am burning at 8x purely because when i burnt at 4x and even 2x, i had the same result.
it sure is a teaser - but to be fair i havent lost a disc since i put the new drive in (altho it still stops for a bit and then continues)
as long as it keeps burning i will just leave it be. fingers x'ed

i'm gonna call on someone who uses a Pioneer and has crossflashed too.
plus it's your choice if you don't follow my advice...

creaky informed me about this one...i have had NO problems with the pioneer dvr-109 upgraded firmware, i actually crossflashed mine from the 1.57 (which is NOT buggy from my personal experience regardless of what "pioneer told them") to the buffalo firmware for bitsetting :)
more info can be found here about the process:
http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/210801
i have since crossflashed, but before you do it, MAKE SURE you know ALL the steps before hand as i take NO responsibility if you do it wrong. :)
regarding the media, i have used HUNDREDS of Ritek G05s that are flawless, BUT, since the the crossflash, i booktype my DVD+R to dvd-rom for compatibility...and use Taiyo Yuden DVD+R media 8x. YUDEN000T02 coding~ :)
i have NOT tried burning to the G05 riteks for almost 2 years now, so as creaky suggested, MIGHT be a media issue for now...consider using Verbatim MCC003 8x DVD+R and Taiyo Yudens i mentioned before...
wish you the best of luck if you DO choose to crossflash, just be careful and FULLY understand all the steps involved...but, when i had the regular 1.57 firmware...i never had any problems personally...there was nothing "buggy/faulty" about it. :)
Recommended Media:
Taiyo Yuden 4x dvd-r TYGO1/ 8x dvd-r TYGO2/ 8x dvd+r YUDEN000T02/ 16x dvd+r YUDEN000T03
Verbatim 8x dvd+r MCC003
Verbatim dvd+r DL (MKM001)= flawless no compression backups
