Cell Phone problem, need help from E-Bayers....

Hey Guys,

I recently purchased a cell phone from a very high feedback seller on Ebay. Now due to a factor, I need to send the phone back and exchange it for a different one. So I called the seller, and he said to send the whole package with the original receipt. Once he receives the package, he will, as he put it, get in touch with me, and work out a new transaction for the replaced phone.

Now my question is, should I do it? I mean he has 7000+ feedbacks. If so, how do I protect myself from getting scammed and a victim of fraud? I mean, there is no Ebay involved and not even PayPal, even though the original payment was made through PayPal. So please guys, let me know how to go about this. Thanks for reading and your help!
