I've got a v5 ps2 with swap magic 3.6 and my first ever back-up was gt3 onto Sony DVD+R. This worked fine with no problems at all (I know a lot of ps2's can't read +R's). I've tried making back ups using Ritek (Ridisc) DVD-R and haven't had a single successful back up. The games I've tried are, MK:Deception, LMA Manager 2005, 7 sins, Ghost Recon 2.

Is it fair to assume that my ps2 doesn't like dvd-r's, or am I just using crap media?

Also, if my ps2 can read both formats, which would be the best one to burn with? Are +R's 'better'?

Please help, the coasters are mounting up!

if you've had success with +R then stick with +R. Ritek are a good brand so I very much doubt that it's the brand of the -R that are causing the games to not work. Have you tried burning the non working games on +R? If you do that and they still don't work then you'll know it's not the media. I think I remember mk:deception needing some kind of patch or fix to work properly with swap magic not sure about the rest of the games though.

No i dont think your ps2 doesnt like dvd -r, all PS2 can read dvd -r. I think the problem might be that the game you mentioned are not simple copies, i think at least 3 of them have to be rebuilt, (MK:Deception, 7 sins, Ghost Recon 2). You could give that a try.

i burned gt3 onto a -r and it worked so i guess the issue doesn't lie with my ps2 not liking -r's! i rebuilt lma manager for what seems like the 10th time, and used the special boot option in swap magic, it seems to run fine. i still can't get mk:deception working though.

another thing... the games that aren't compatible with usb extreme, if you rebuild them and burn them and get them to work, (eg lma), will they work with usb extreme if you install them from the rebuilt back up?

About that... My PS2 can't stand -R's... It will load em but they are extremely slow and only work for a few times before they quit all together... but I copied all those games onto +R's and my PS2 reads em like I just bought em... so I think certain PS2's might like certain DVD's better than others...
