Hi, my pioneer dvd-rw dvr-107d is all of a sudden refusing to play any dvd media. I have never had a problem with this. It will play cd-r media. It was working earlier. It happened shortly after I used Nero to burn a custom dvd (which it did succesfully). Now it refuses to read any dvds I put in the drive. I have up to date firmware. Thinking it was a nero problem I unistalled Nero but still no luck.

Any ideas?

thanks

Still not having any luck, even though I've went through the majority of similar posts in this and other forums. I'm guessing my problem must lie with the Nero custom dvd I made. It was my first time using this function, I usually use DVD Shrink to burn dvds. Although the custom dvd I made did succesfully burn to disc. Still, it is after this that I have lost use of my DVD-RW drive. Again it plays cd's with no problems. Any dvd disk I enter into the machine is not being read at all.

Please, any ideas.

Dont want to have to reinstall wndows again.

Don't know if this helps but I had a similar problem. I ended up putting Nero on the sidelines. Never had this problem until the recent changes with Nero.

Here is What Nero support said:
Please contact the manufacturer of the recorder in order to get the latest firmware for your recorder.
An old firmware can cause compatibility problems as well as burn failures.
Firmware upgrades for your recorder are provided only by the Manufacturer of your recorder. All firmware upgrades and support for upgrading your recorders firmware must be provided by either the recorder manufacturer or the OEM you purchased your recorder bundle from. We can not assist you in this, sorry.

For example if you have a Yamaha Recorder, you would go to the www.yamaha.com website in order to obtain the latest firmware for your recorder and instructions on how to upgrade your recorders firmware. Same goes for all other recorder manufacturers, such as Sony, Pioneer, LG, etc...

To determine what kind of recorder you have, assuming you do not know for sure, you can use our Nero InfoTool to obtain this information. To locate the Nero Info Tool, follow the steps below.

For Nero Burning ROM 6 or Nero Express 6 go to:
'Start->All Programs->Nero->Nero ToolKit->Nero InfoTool'

For Nero Burning Rom 5.5 or Nero Express 5.5 go to:
'Start->All Programs->Ahead Nero->Nero ToolKit->Nero InfoTool'

Once Nero InfoTool is launched, make sure your recorder is selected in the top left of the window. Use the drop-down box located there to select your recorder or any recorder. Once selected, it displays the manufacturer as well as the model of the recorder you have. Be sure to make a note of this. Also, once you have your recorder selected, you can click on the 'DRIVE' tab and in the top right of this window you will see the current firmware version (among other information) you have on your recorder. Compare this version with the latest firmware provided by the manufacturer of your recorder and upgrade if available.

There are drivers left on your system from another burning software.
Please use the driver clean tool in order to disable these drivers.
Download cleanpack.zip from ftp://ftp9.nero.com/attach/cleanpack.zip
Extract the zipped files onto your hard disk using WinZip or WinRar.
You should now have two files: Driver-CleanTool.exe and RegistryChecker.exe.
First, run Driver-CleanTool.exe by double-clicking it.
Driver-CleanTool will deactivate drivers that caused problems in Nero in the past.
Confirm the deactivation of the drivers displayed in order to prevent known driver conflicts from reoccurring in the future.
These drivers also exist, with values, in the registry in Windows NT, 2000 and XP.
In order to ensure that these are also deactivated you will need to run the RegistryChecker file.

The Registry Checker will run very quickly. It is likely that you won't see any action after double clicking the file.
Note: Running the Registry Checker is not necessary for Windows ME, 98SE, 98 or 95.

If you have any further questions, please don't hesitate to contact us again.

I don't know why burning a DVD with Nero would screw anything up but can you try doing a system restore rather than reinstalling Windows? That seems a bit drastic.

What I did was use the cleaner from Nero's ftp site and then all was somehat OK. But I had no problems with any other burning software. So Nero had to be the cause in my mind. I also ended up doing a system restore and for now all is somewhat OK. Reinstalling windows is not fun
