how can anybody tell if their game is a cd or a dvd game????

I'm not 100% sure, but I believe DVD's have a purple bottom and CD's are grey.

Well, its the other way around

Dvd's have a silver underside where as Cd's have a purple one.

I'm looking at a blank Cd right now and it looks silver...my DVD is purple...

blank CDs (CD/Rs) are silver. Blank DVDs (DVD/Rs) have a purpleish bottom. Retail PS2 CD based games have a blue bottom and PS2 DVD games have a silver/goldish bottom.
