ok i am trying to back up some of my existing PS2 games. i have tried a half dozen programs and seem to be getting no where and burning up DVD's. i've tried Nero, coping the DVD, making an ISO, the chipped PS@ doen't seem to like them. Sometimes i will get one to work like mercanaries with a simple nero copy dvd. but ones like Techu (wrath of heaven), nothing seems to work. Laos, i read the GOD of war thread and seems its way involved to get it on a 4 gig disk, but its worth the try. What i need is what in anyones opinion is the SIMPLEST way to make a backup of a PS2 Game. Newbe here and i am still in that learning curve. All i am trying to do is use the backup so the orginal doen't get destroyed by my kids. (lost 4 already to carelessness). once again i have basically all the dvd programs except alcolhol (?), and some others mentioned here. DVD decripter, nero 6 and clone dvd are in my possesion. Am i just missing something. thanks to all in advance.

DVD Decrypter is what i use for all mine. backing them up when you have kids is the best way to do it, then just store the originals out of their grubby little reach. That way the most you will have to do is make another back up, which of course is way cheaper than buying it again.
Here is a tutorial for using DVD Decrypter, along with some others, that i wrote.

One key is using good media like TDK,Verbatim or Philips when doing games. Also look at the specs on the chip you have to see which it will play +R or -R
I use -R for all my games and +R for all my movies.

THANKS MAN! i might have found an issue. I can only use DVD +'s. it seems to work for most ones but could this be a problem with the other ps2 games? also i guess the best way to do god of war is try and follow the guide/?

if your chip only plays +R then that would be the problem if you burned them to -R. Are all the games you did on -R?
What chip do you have?
And do you have the older chunky PS2 or the new slim PSTwo?

well i use DVD +R's. not -R's. i have the old style of PS2. the chip i have is DMS4 EZI Pro/Lite PS2 ModChip . all the games i have burnt are on DVD +'s. like i said some work like merchanaries others don't like tenchu. can't figure out why. i also looked at your manual for dvd decripter and i do them exactly as you show. so i am little stumped. also using verbatim DVD's.

i dont have a modchip but ive heard having the latest bios for you chip helps read games.you could also clean your ps2 lens(just in case).and maybe adjust your burn speed.people have different types of burners that burn better at different speeds.the compatiblity of the media you use with your burner also affects the burn speeds.

what version ps2 do you have?some really old versions of ps2 dont read DVD+R too well.in such case you could adjust the lens and maybe get a better read on the disc.how exactly does the backup not work?...black screen?freezing on loading screen?

I have the DMS4 Pro in mine. I always use DVD-R for my games and DVD+R for my movies.
The Verbatim discs should work fine from what i hear.
I use Philips (8X DVD-R) myself because they work every time.
I have also had success with TDK (4X DVD-R)
