Got dropped down to dialup from cable ahhhhhhhhhhhh!!!! What a nightmare but moneys tuff and ya gottta do what ya gotta do. So i still have all the comps routed together but for the life of me i cant seem to get the internet signal to be split thru the router.Just for simple stuff like online banking and checkin e-mail.I know i cant surf crazy stuff with 3 comps at once but i cant even get the other comps to be able to sign on or get a connection thru the router .Ive been told its possible but havent figured it out yet and starting to dought it myself .If anyone knows how to do this or has a sugestion im all ears .

I dont believe it is possible , because the connection would be so thinly spread, it couldnt get the right stuff it would need to connect.

can't do it the way i think you have it as it probably goes into 1 computer that has the dialup modem than to the other computers thru the router, correct. needs to go thru the modem to the router than to the computers. a server might work but don't know as i haven't set 1 up yet.

ya im startin to think its a lost cause myself. Thanx guys . Does anyone know how that 3G thing is that just came out from Net Zero i was lookin at that its only 14.99 a month. GOD I MISS CABLE waaaaaaa.

One way that might be possible is to just use the router as a hub. You would have to do a few things:
First find out the IP address of the network card of the computer that the modem is connected to - for example say it is 192.168.0.1 with a 255.255.255.0 subnet mask.

Next on the same PC enable Internet Connection Sharing on the modem - right click on the dialup connection and go to properties/advanced. You should see the ICS option there.

On the other PCs, set the IP address to something on the same subnet, for example 192.168.0.2 with the same 255.255.255.0 mask. Make the default gateway the ip of the pc with the modem - 192.168.0.1 in this example. Set the DNS servers to your ISP's. If you are unsure of what they are, go online with the modem and from a command prompt type ipconfig /all. Repeat for all the PCs you want to connect, changing their ip address of course so you don't have a duplicate. The key is setting the default gateway to the pc with the modem. That insures that any packets will be forwarded to that machine.

That should work fine. I have did that several times with just a plain hub or switch, just not a router. I belive that most home routers will function like a hub or a switch as long as you are not using the uplink port.

ps ya prices vary like crazy from canada to the us huh?im from pa i cant belive what they make people pay for shipping and handleing from canada some times "like if someone orders a magazine" canada has to add 6 to 10 dollars more its ridiculous
