Hello. I am a newbie to Afterdawn, but not that new to PS2 backups and I would like to share some of my observations of the differences between PS2 versions. First of all, I use Swap Magic 3.6 and the flip-top lid method. I burn TDK-Rs on a Pioneer DVD-RW at 1X speed. I use DVD Decrypter (newest version). I have a fast and stable computer - 3.0 P4, 1 gig RAM, 2X 120 gig SATA HDs. I have 2 PS2s with flip top covers. The first - a version 3, works perfectly with over 200 backups (Only had to re-build the usual suspects - Mercenaries, Battlefront, NBA Street V3, etc.). The second system is a version 7. I do everything the same except that the versions are different.
My issue is this: any game around/over that magic 4.3 gig size (rebuilt or not) freezes on the version 7 and the laser sounds like it is vibrating violently. Does anyone have similiar experience with the version 7 and what did you do to get these larger games to play?
Some of the games that freeze on ver. 7: Juiced, Digital Devil Saga, Midnight Club DUB, Tekken 5, Destroy All Humans, Shadow of Rome, just to name a few.

Anyone else encounter this type of issue or have any suggestion/solution?

Nope, have a V7 with flip top and it works great with Swap Magic 3.0 on all my games. Except like you mentioned a few that needed patching and rebuilding.

Then there is my slip PSTwo with DMS4 Pro and Summone laser fix which is just the best. Never have to patch, rebuild, swap or any of that other crap. Needles to say the old V7 doesn't get used that much these days.

Thanks Steimy. It is strange. The only thing different is the actual PS2. Think it might be a lens cleaning issue? I did buy the ver 7 used. Did you ever have any lens issues?
