This is my attempt to only copy the first angle of Star Wars VI Return of the Jedi. So far with all the backups i have made there have been only 6 or 7 instances of this problem, including the three older star wars movies, see the following for pictures about what i mean...

Before Backup (With selections i chose)

After Backup (The result, notice it copies all three angles, not the one i selected)

I think it is because each angle is not really a whole movie in itself even though the CloneDVD size readouts make you think they are. I think they just interact with each other when you press the angle button on your player's remote. I used DXC 1.5.2 on the Star Wars series and it doesn't read out the different angles so as to confuse you like CloneDVD's readout does. It just shows one big movie Title-Set. I hate the loss of quality from compression so I split DVD9 > DVD5 onto two disks. No prob, plays great and all the angles work via the player's remote control. According to CloneDVD's readout, you would need to use 3-6 disks(!) (depending on what degree of compression is acceptable to you). Which is silly because there is not that much data on the Starwars original disk. But even though I can't explain how to backup this movie with CloneDVD, I'll point you to where you'll get a good answer...

If you ask this question over at the CD Freaks website, Olli, the person who wrote the CloneDVD program and many CloneDVD old timers will be able to help quick with little guesswork. Just don't bug them by not posting what exact version of CloneDVD and AnyDVD you are using, Movie title, and maybe your configuration.

Post back or PM me when you get an answer OK? Because when I run into a CloneDVD readout like your posted graphic shows I just say "the hell with this" and use DXC or other program. I'd like to know how to split THAT readout onto 2 backup disks using CloneDVD!

I've been watching your post over on CD Freaks. They are not exactly jumping all over it are they? Maybe they are all on vacation this weekend!

I think that Whisperer has it correct. Notice that in your example with 3 two hour plus tracks for the backed up disc quality is shown as 100% on a DVD-5. This would not be possible if there were almost 7 hours of video recorded. In your final output files are the different angles actually selectable when played by PowerDVD for example. Ther does seem to be a quirk in the way CloneDVD does this.
Have you run a test with something like DVD Shrink to see what it displays when processing this movie?

the second picture is obviously 100% because it is the backed up disc... it should however only have angle one, as you can see from the first picture when i made my selections i chose angle one and left angles 2 and 3 deselected and even still it ended up on my backed up copy...

Sorry missed that. But what was the quality of the copied disk/files. If it really copied 7+ hours on a DVD5 the video should be really crappy looking. Also could all three angles be selected/viewed. I think Whisperer is right (one file that interacts to allow different variations/views) but don't have the answer for why CloneDVD is displaying like it does.

well if i click on the angles 2 and 3... it does not show the introduction to the movie (you know what i mean, what star wars does at the beginning of each flick), but the rest of it is there, so really i dont know what it is doing... i think it removes the other languages, but im only guessing here...

What happens if you select angles 2 and three on the original disc, does it act the same? Maybe CloneDVD2 is copying all three angles or maybe its just saying it did. What is the result if you select all three angles when copying from the original? Trying figure out what CloneDVD2 is really doing.

Also using DVD Shrink to view the original and copied disk may give some clues.

Suprised that no one at CD Freaks has responded as the original author of some of this software (Olli) frequents the site. Have not seen posts by them lately, maybe taking some vacation.

i actually tried different variations to the same end. But when i used a free trial of DVDFab Express for example, it did not even recogize more than the one angle, in fact it gave only the one option! very strange...

I've seen other rat-out, scoldings, and self-appointed policing posts by him which should really be the domain of a mod! You were right to stand up for yourself. But he actually does help with many problems.

Try this: Put the SW original back in your ROM. Use CloneDVD's "Split" feature to split each of the 3 angle title sets (somewhere near the middle of the movie) and at exactly the same chapter in each angle's TS's. That should give you zero compression on two split disks (you may have to shuffle a few special features between the two backup disks). If my hunch is right, this should give you a backup with all three angles functioning.

I hate ANY level of compression, even 1%. So I always split my movies and play them in a DVD player-changer so there is little inconvenience. But that is just my preference. Also dual-layer -R blanks are too expensive now. I have a real hi-rez home entertainment setup and can't tolerate compression's loss of quality that would not be noticed on an average home ent setup.

Based on all the replies I have seen on both forums it appears that the difference in the angles is the different languages shown on the opening. It would appear that only one angle was really copied as you got no opening scroll when selecting angles 2 and 3. It appears that the CloneDVD2 display that all three angles are included is not really correct. If that is the only defference you probably can really copy all three angles without much additional compression. What is the commpression shown if all three angles are selected versus only the dirst (53%)?

I had the same issue with A New Hope and CloneDVD. When I used the REauthor tool on DVD Shrink, the same three angle with bad compression (40ish%) problem existed. I ended up ripping the entire disc with Shrink and burning it with Nero. As has been mentioned, it appears these angles are actually related to language except for the strange end burn result I got. When I start the movie the first scene runs fine with the dialogue disappearing into deep space, but then when the first scene ends the angle indicator starts flashing on my TV. At this point I have to change from Angle 1 to Angle 2 and the movie continues without any problems. Pretty wierd. If I don't do this, the movie remains frozen.

I had the same problem with Clone2DVD but solved it by just checking all (in this case only angle 1 and angle 2) the angle boxes. The compression went from 0 (100) to 80 when I clicked the second box, and I took a hit for preserving menus too, but without spanning into 2 disks the quality was acceptable for FINDING NEMO which is pretty video intensive.

WHen I copied just Angle 1 the movie would play on my computer (WinDVD) but NOT on the Regular DVD player.

When I try to backup this movie I get an error from CloneDVD stating something to the effect the the disc is not properly structured.
