I have mod chips in my Playstation 2 and Xbox and I am looking to purchase a dvd burner and software to back up my dvd movies and games. Can someone tell me which burner and software I should invest in? I do not know alot about computers, and something easy to use would be best. Should I purchase a dual layer dvd burner? Do I need different software for movies and games? Does it make a difference which mod chips are in my systems? Any help would be appreciated, Thanks!

I would recommend the pioneer 109 it's a Dual Layer burner and not that expensive. I don't know if dual format dual layer (+ or - dual layer) burners are available on the market or not but if they are then I would say go for those as the pioneer a09/109 is dual layer for + only. dvddecrypter is a very popular easy to use burning program for games, as for backing up movies goes, if you're not gonna be backing them up to dual layer (which are quite expensive) then it'll be a little more complicated as you will need to rip some stuff out of an original dual layer dvd movie disc to have it fit on a regular 4.7gb dvd blank.

Get DVD Decrypter to back up your games, free and easy to use.
Get DVD Shrink to do your movies, also free and easy to use.
I use DVD-R for all my games and DVD+R for movies and that has worked out great. You can use most brands to do movies but get some good media for your games (TDK,Philips,Verbatim,Ritek G04)
I have the Sony DRU-700A (now up to DRU-720A) and it is a fantastic burner and works great in my Dell system. It will do just about anything you need. Not DVD-R DL, but will d DVD+R DL which will work just fine on most PS2's except V4 or below models.

The chip will only matter as far as what it can do. Like if it will play both +R and -R, or just one. Or if is just a chip that stops the PS2 from resetting, which you would still need Swap Magic to use to play back up games.
Back up movies will play on a syock PS2 with no modifications at all.

Here is a tutorial on both DVD Decrypter and DVD Shrink for you to look at.

P.S. If you whant to buy good software for doing movies then
DVDClone2 and AnyDVD by Slysoft is the way to go. That combo is fantastic.
