I would like to know how to make back up copies for the"Grand Theft Auto" games.

Which is the best software to use and what speed do I use to burn them.

My partner burned the GTA-Vice city & San Andreas but they kept freezing up and also the picture would look all messed up.It would say "disk unreadable" during loading after you would complete a mission.

The disks I used for burning are: DVD-R single sided 4.7GB.

Thanks,

Sue

Yeah, DVD Decypter is free and works great. You can get it in the software section here.
I did my GTA games with it and they worked fine.
But make sure you do them on GOOD MEDIA!
They are very graphically intense games and require the discs to be good quality for best results. Then you will not have the disc read errors, video & audio problems.
I suggest TDK, Verbatim, Philips (what i use always), Ritek G04
in DVD-R 8X
Burned at 4X
Works for me every time.

most games that are under 4.7GB should work fine
But you could always try rebuilding the ISO and see if it comes out any smaller, some games will run better after you do this.

Thanks once again. I will try tonight and hope the GTA games,Batman Begins and the Star Wars-Battlefront work this time around.;)

All the games above either took too long to load, froze up or the graphics were terrible.

I did laugh when I loaded GTA San Andreas onto my PS2..

The graphics were such a mess! I would be driving down the street and then suddenly you couldn't see any buildings or cars. You only saw the people walking around on a gold kind of surface where the road or sidewalk was suppose to be.

Alchol 120 is great for burning PS2 games too, it's all I use unless the game is on a Dual Layer disc. Alcohol 120 is like Nero, its just burning software, the advantage is it lets you copy the disc to your PC's HD first, so if something goes wrong you havent wasted a disc by just doing a straight burn.

I use TDK or Verbatim DVD+R.

My back-ups of all the GTA's and Star Wars Battlefront work great.

The only game I havent got to work is V8 Supercars 2.

GTA & Batman Begins should work with just a strait out copy.
But if i remember correctly there was a special proceedure people used for Starwars Battlefront. Think that one has to be rebuilt.

I had no trouble with SWBF, just created an image on Alcohol 120 and burned it to a Verbatim DVD+R.

I have the PAL version though, maybe with the NTSC you have to fiddle with it a bit.

Hey,

I tried tonight to burn GTA and it didn't work.

I tried Alcohol 120 and DVD Deycrpter on various speeds -1X,2X,8X. with no success.

I also tried to burn it straight from DVD to DVD and it also failed.

As I said before I'm using TDK DVD-R. should I try to use DVD+R disks and see if that helps.

you could try +R if you like. But it will only play on a version 4 or above PS2

I use only Philips 8X DVD-R discs and they work every time with DVD Decrypter. I backed up GTA San Andreas and it works just fine.
Have you tried updating the firmware for your DVD burner? That helps sometimes.

It's a black PS2 PAL. not sure what version it is. How can I find out?

Anyone have problems with the burning speed on Alcohol 120 before?
My partner could'nt change the speeds to 1x on it for some reason.
