Hello. This is my first post on this forum - although I have had a long membership with another (unrelated) user forum. I say that because I am going to ask a very naive question!
Having lost my CD burning facility on WindowsXP (Home) I turned to Nero InCD. But I have failed to burn a few photograph files to a CD.
I have followed all the instructions about adding files and go through the process of burning. A message comes up about the CD having being burned, but a check in My Computer shows the disc to be blank. In fact, I went through the process WITHOUT A CD IN THE BURNER and got the "burn completed" message!
It will not be the computer or the Nero software of course! It will be me. So, please, what am I not doing - or doing wrongly.
By the way, why does Nero not have a support service but diverts problems to what Nero calls "unofficial" support sites?

welcome to afterdawn, and the newly created Nero forum here. The problem you describe is one of the reasons why i myelf don't use programs such as InCD. Someone will no doubt drop by who does use InCD and can offer assistance. I have subscribed to this thread so will see any replies and will offer assistance if/when i can.

I am with creaky, I have only used this program a few times mostly with CD-RW to format them as floppy disks to transfer files between computers and to edit word documents.

Are you just wanting to transfer your photos to a CD or are you planning to edit them, in which case you would need a CD-RW.

Not sure what you meant by this though

When I changed my computer it included WindowsXP Home in which there was an "in-built" system for sending/burning digital photos to a CD. I used this for having 6"x4"s printed by the local photo-finishing shop. Their printing is much better than mine! Besides, it saves time. I also store photos on CDs to free-up computer space.
I keep the original pictures on the stored CDs, but the 6"x4"s are, of course, cropped and edited for the photo-finishers.
But suddenly when I tried to use this facility it decided it couldn't complete the task. I was doing nothing different. I was urged to try another CD which I did, many times, to no avail. A check "behind the scenes" of the computer showed it was just dropping this programme every time, even when it was started up before burning to CD. Still, that is another problem . . .
So I switched to Nero InCD. But I find I cannot use it to do the same job of burning photos to CD for printing. I press all the right buttons; why doesn't the programme follow orders? ! !

If you are saving the photos on your hard drive it should be just a drag and drop of your files to your burner drive. Did you try a system restore to before the point you began having difficulties with Windows.

Arniebear, It is the burner drive that I seem to have lost - which is why I started trying to use InCD.
Yes, I tried to go to an earlier date with System Restore but was told that it was not possible to go back to any point (or words to that effect).
I have a thread about that running on another forum and the only advice I have had there is to save all files and documents to a back-up and delete then reinstal WindowsXP. I am in the middle of that mammoth task now. I should have saved the pictures as I went along - and it would have been before I lost the burner programme!

Your burner is working isn't it? Open your Nero Info Tool and see what it is saying about your drive configurations and your drive. And post it back.

From InCD help
Quote:
Information about InCD
InCD is a program which formats rewritable discs (CD-RW, DVD-RAM, DVD+RW and DVD-RW) in such a way that they can be used like hard disks or floppy disks. This means that you can save, copy or delete files from any application onto the disc.

InCD uses only rewritable discs (CD-RW, DVD-RAM, DVD+RW, DVD-RW). Discs which can only be written to once (CD-R, DVD+R or DVD-R) cannot be used with InCD.
You are using rewritable disks aren't you?

Arniebear. There is so much information in the Nero Info Tool but nothing about drive configuration as far as I can see. But knowing me, I could have missed it!

However . . . no, I am not using RW discs. CD-Rs. Where does it say I should use CD-RW? EDIT: Sorry, I've just re-read your post. It's in InCD Help!
And what is wrong with blank/unused CD-Rs?

Obviously you have hit the nail on the head and so I will get some RWs - but what a strange set-up. The WindowsXP burner I have (temporarily?) lost wasn't so picky!!

The information about using RW's is directly from the program, if you right click on the program icon and open the help file you will see information on using the program. In the past when I did use this program I always used RW's because InCD will format them like a floppy and you can directly save to it. I no longer use the program, although it is still installed, just opening it up conflicts with my drives. In fact it can cause a drive to go missing or be misread. My Nec will go from a DVD drive to a CD drive if I open the program and I will have to do restore to get it back, or reinstall drivers. Right now the program is disabled so it is harmless.

Thanks, arniebear. I will get some RWs as I said and hope I can get the in-built Windows burner back. Thanks again.

Arniebear . . . CD-RWs are the answer. Problem solved. I am happily burning photos to CDs. Mind you, I am using Nero Express rather than InCD!
Thanks again.

You are welcome, if you are now using Nero Express, you can try to use CD's it is only with InCD that you need the CDRW's. But I am glad everything is now working for you, good luck, happy burning.
