Got the new hulk game demo today, tried to boot it with my ripper 2 chip enabled, and it wouldnt load. I was shattered, I thought my PS2 had died.

I turned off the chip, and it worked fine. I then tried a few of my back-ups (obviously with the chip on) and they worked just as good as ever.

So what's going on there?

i have a hunch that this chip interferes with the demo i have had the same problem on a friends ps2. My advice would be to turn the chip off or put it in stealth mode if its possible. Can i double check that the demo is indeed an original copy and not a backup?

Yup, original disc.

When it wouldnt load with the chip on I did put it into stealth mode and it worked fine.

I havent experienced this with any other demos, and I get alot as I work for eb.

well it may be like the old psone games rememeber? it would detect a chip and just stop there and resfuse to boot or maybe its just the chip trying to boot a demo because it has multiple elfs on the disc HD Advance has a problem with this too but stealth mode works so thats god enough i guess

I wasnt as into games when I had my PSX as I am now, never got it chipped.

What do you mean by 'multiple elfs'?

>>but stealth mode works so thats good enough i guess<<

Yeah, that's right, as long as the demo works one way or another I'm happy, I was just concerned that it might've meant there's a new copy protection out there and my ripper 2 was going to have trouble booting back-ups of future games.

I wanna get the new hulk game when it comes out so hopefully a back-up of that is gonna work, I hate using the original discs mainly because I play with people who dont respect how easy it is to scratch and ruin them. You should see their own discs - big mess.

the way a ps2 game is structured the elf is a boot file think of an elf as a boot sector almost on all normal games it would only have one game and therefore usually only have one elf (bootsector). But seen as this is a demo it has lots of different games and programs on it it has to have multiple bootsectors to boot each of these demos and programs.

The chip may just have a compatibility issue with this file. Or because theres more than one the chip might not like it as did HD Advance not like goldeneye rogue agent because of the multiple elfs. All i can say is these things happen and you got it to work so who cares.
