Hopefully this info will help me and others...

Media used:

-Verbatim 4x +R (10 pack from walmart) - nothing happens

-Maxell 4x -R (3pk from walmart) - screen turns black, sounds like its loading, but nothing happens

-Ritek 4x -R G04 (matte top) - screen turns black, sounds like its loading, but nothing happens

-TDK 2x -R - screen turns black, sounds like its loading, but nothing happens

-Phillips 8x -R (25pk from Circuit City) - screen turns black, sounds like its loading, but nothing happens

-TDK 8x +R (20pk from Target) - screen turns black, sounds like its loading, but nothing happens

I'm past fraustrated. I have a V5 PS2 with a no solder modchip(r-mod). I can still boot some previously burnt older dvd backup games fine but I can't find the same media they are on anymore. Ritek G04 4x -R shiny top, Verbatim datalife 4x +R purple writing, TDK 4x +R matte top. Besides I've seen people say they've used the media above with success.

Also I've tried burning at different speeds 2x(lowest it will let me) and 4x on each type of media listed above. I'm using Metal Gear Solid 2 as my orginal for the swap.

Games I've tried: NCAA 2006, NBA Street V3, Killzone, Madden 2005, NBA live 2005...and more

Anyone have an idea of what the problem could be or where to get that old media?

The first backup i did was pro evolution Soccer 4 on a Sony DVD-R and it works like its the original and its also patched. Maybe your doing it wrong becuause Media like Ritek and TDR, are pretty good!!!

Me personally i think its cos of ur swap disk or what ever ur using. Ive got a Slimline PS2 with the DMS pro 4 and its good!! i dont know, see what others think!!

ive got a slimline and swap 3.6, and all of those games with the exception of street v3 are 1:1 burns, so i would think it is your chip..but you say you can boot old ones?

Yeah NFL Street, True Crime, GTA San Andreas, NCAA 2004, Madden 2004, Def Jam Vendetta are working fine. Maybe the TOC on Metal Gear Solid 2 isnt large enough?

Very odd, All of those discs should work fine.
I have used Philips 8X DVD-R for years and have had 100% success with them. I used TDK 4X DVD-R also with great success.
both burned at 4X
My NBA Live 2005 and Killzone worked fine with nothing special
If your other back up works then i would say it is not the chip but it is hard to tell what it could be.
I have a slim with DMS4 Pro and everything works great.
You may want to try something like updating your burners firmware to the latest version if you have not already.
Also since you have a mod chip you may want to look at the specs. I have not heard of anyone using an original game to swap with. Either you need a boot disc like Swap Magic, or you don't need anything. Depends on the chip (and i have never heard of a r-mod chip.
