Hi there. I know its been posted many times but the answer has never really come out clear. You can read it all but you can also scroll down and look at the nutshell version =)
For one, I have the newest Slim PS2 (Model 7000/The Latest). I want to back up my games that I have which Ive seen that it looks like its DVD decryptor that does the job? Some one tell me if thats not the best. Also, I was looking around and people were stating its first of illigal but also impossible to burn Swap Magic 3.6 versions on CD/DVD's? Is that also true? Another thing, would I still need a flip top or slide card (Im not sure what they are exactly) to play my back up DVD and CD PS2 games? Or would I just need the Swap Magic CD's because I have the newest slim PS2? And another thing (So many questions), what will happen when PS3 comes out? Will we still be able to use our backups on it and use our swap magic discs? How do we know if our game is a DVD or CD when were about to back it up?

Can we get Swap Magic at USA stores today? If we can only get it on the net, why?
Is swap Magic ok to use for playing DVD and CD backups of PS2 games? Why are there so many (and too many!) options on mod chips. It makes me so confused. And why would some one want to void their ps2 console with a mod chip when they can use swap magic?

DVD Decrypter works great for DVD based games, not sure for CD based games since i never do those.

not illegal if you are backing up a copy you own, but useless. You can do it but as with any other back up you would need a real copy of swap magic to load the back up copy

Yeas, even with the slim PSTwo you need to mod it. YOu will need either a mod chip installed (a good one like DMS4 Pro, DMS4 Lite, Matrix Infinity) or you will need to use swap magic and another mod. The other mod can either be an aftermarket flip top, or a slim tool. Both of these serve the same purpose. They stop the PSTwo from resetting when you open it so you can swap discs. Without the second mod swap magic will not work because when you open the PSTwo to swap that and the back up it will reset and not work.
4. PS3, Can we use our PS2 backups on it?
It will almost surely be backwards compatible, It would be a big mistake if it is not. If no one could play their PSTwo games on the new system (like when PS2 came out it will still play PS1 games)
I think that they would really be pissed. That would be a big waste of money because they would have to wait until new games came out for it.
And lastly i am not sure why you can only get Swap Magic online. It may be that stores are affraid that they may be accused of promoting Piracy.
And the reason people get mod chips is because good ones like what i listed above are capable of doing more than Swap Magic. With a mod chip you do not have to patch games, rebuild ISO's like some games with Swap Magic. It will play both PAL & NTSC games with no screen lose unlike swap magic. and no hassle of swapping. Also no special proceedures when using your cheat discs. all your back ups will work in your PSTwo just like the originals do.
