Good morning
Having probs with dvd shrink ! or is it nero ? I back up a dvd to the HD using DVD shrink, no probs, but when it comes to the final burning the dvd to disk it gets stuck on the checking discs process(programme not responding). Its only the second time its happened mind you but my question is !!!, when its all backed up on my HD and I`ve had to restart my comp what is the easiest way to burn the files to dvd, never done that before you see. All help most appreciated.
XP Pro O/S
Pioneer 109 Ex dvd burner
Ritek media dvd
Nero Reloaded package
DVD shrink
Open Nero Express and select DVD-Video files under "What would you like to burn?". When the window opens select add, a Browse window opens and select the folder (video) you want recorded. As long as the target is below 4.37 GB you should be okay to go. That's the easiest way to record from the hard drive. But why do it that way when you can set Shrink to record automatically through Nero? Seems a waste of time. Now if you had CopyToDVD, you have the option to burn and save the file to the HD. Don't know why they didn't offer the same for Nero.
Well Nero still keeps crashing(not responding)on most occasion now. Does the programme have any software conflicts ?
Have uninstalled all other burning software apart from DVD Shrink and DVD Decrypter. Sometimes I have no probs with it, it will copy, back up everything but every now and then it just crashes and I cant close it down without having to re-boot the comp. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling, not done the reg thing or defragged tho. Any ideas ??
for the Nero problem i may well be able to help. Post LAST section of your Nero log, it's in c:\program files\ahead\nero\nerohistory.log, but DO NOT post your serial number which usually begins with '1A21' or similar..
The log will show your firmware, DMA settings, free memory, disc info, all sorts of good stuff that is generally more than enough to get Nero up and running nicely
Hi there
Thanks for offering to help, you see the prob is im at work at the mo, I cant understand why it is sometimes fine and other times it just freezes up and I have to restart comp to get rid of it. For the record Im using xp pro o/s, pioneer 109 external burner and ritek media.
no worries. i'm just singling out the Nero thing as it gives loads of help for troubleshooting, it may well be something different, but it's always worth checking the simple things first..
Older versions of Nero had InCD. Batch writing software links to the burner and can cause interference when doing work with other recording software. If you still have it, it may be an idea to get rid of it, most everyone has. I don't think it's part of the package now. The registry thing and defragging are sometimes an essential part of routine maintenance. Also, there should be a weekly cleanup of adware and spyware along with a virus scan. The freebies Spybot and AdAware SE are excellent additions to your anti virus software. If you want a good clean install; delete the app using Add Remove in the control panel. Run the adware and spyware apps and the virus scan. Then run a Registry tool if you have one. Defrag if the drive needs it. Now run the Disk Cleanup in Accessories under Sytem Tools. That gives you a squeaky clean PC to load an app too. If you have Norton, purge the protected waste basket, it's bad to lock up memory space. Download the latest version of Nero and install it. I'd advise doing the install on a fresh reboot after all the cleaning. The aboved will eliminate a lot of the possibilities when it comes to diagnosing problems.
Before you do all the above though, post the log and let creaky look over that. They tell a lot and it may be a simple problem. By the way, the clean up I mentioned above should be done periodically anyway, whether it takes care of your Nero problem or not. It is routine maintenance and it'll prevent problems on down the road.
