Any NVE users out there?
I'm trying to cut out some unwanted scenes from some home movies. I can select the ranges I want removed, now what? How do I save the changes?
Any links to a more comprehensive manual?
Thank you.

I'm new to NVE myself and I haven't found a way to "Save" the changes to an edit/trimmed clip, but what I did was "Export" the modified clip while in the edit screen, then replace the original clip with the modified one in my project. I wouldn't be surprised if there was an easier way, though. BTW - Using Nero 6.6 Ultra

mcookd,
If you have the same situation I had you need to click the "Restore Down" button (between minimize & close in the upper right corner) to reveal the menu bar at the bottom of the sreen.
Thanks to fasfrank for helping me find this.

Hey, jstin
The save button on the bottom saves your project to a file with an .NVC extension, but it doesn't actually modify the original clip. The situation I was describing was like if you had some static at the very beginning of a clip and you wanted to permanently delete it from the actual file. I'm saving all my old vhs movies to my hard drive to make dvd's later and they ALL have some static/junk at the beginning and end :-). I just wanted to trim them once and for all.

mcookd,
Oh ok, gotcha. You must have some major storage space...:)I didn't realize NVE didn't make the changes to the actual file......hmmmm, I've gotten a little frustrated trying to use my .nvc file in other programs like DVD Shrink, maybe I need to do it your way. I'm just barely starting to get a handle on the tapes to DVD thing & don't want to over complicate things.
Are you going to save your vids on your HDD longterm? I was planning on burning a few copies direct from NVE & then delete from my HDD. I don't have a large HDD though.

Hey, don't feel alone, I am SO new to this - only had my dvd burner a few weeks, learning as I go. I hope if I am messing up someone else reading this will correct me. To be honest, I am almost certain I will run out of HD space. I figure once I have my clips trimmed neatly and in mpeg-2 format I can always burn them to dvd-r's as is for future use. I just want to sort them all out (Christmas, vacations, kids, etc.) before I start making permanent dvd's. That's my plan, anyway...subject to change :-).

mcookd,
Are your tapes analog or digital? If analog, how are you getting them onto your pc's HD?
I'm using a Humax DRT800 (TiVo with a burner). By the time I get to the finished product my family movie has been transferred at least 4 times. I assume each transfer loses some quality & I'm trying to eliminate any steps I can.
Thanks.

Hi Mcookd,
For what you are after, your process is the correct way. Nero Vision will never modify the original movie, as most users want to use the original video again at a later date, unchanged. So if you really want the changes to stick, you have to Export. The Save button is only for saving the project you are working on, it does not affect the original files, as nothing has really been done to them yet, physically.
Hi Jstin,
For cutting out sections of a video, as you may have found out already, from the EDIT window, just click on the Scissor Icons in the Preview window of the Edit window, and select a range to cut out. Anything between the two scissor icons will be cut out. Once you have selected the range, click on the Scissor Icon again to make the cut official.
As for capturing Analog content, there are many Capture devices on the market. You should first go to the Nero website and find a list of capture cards that we have tested and confirmed are supported by the NeroVision software.
Regards,
Craig

Hi ccampbell, thanks for verifying...I was hoping I was doing it right.
jstin, Analog (VHS and VHS-C). I have a stand-alone Ilo DVD Recorder/Player (DVDR05) from Wal-Mart. I just dub from my VCR to a DVD+RW, then pop it in the PC and use Windows Explorer to copy the .VOB files to a tempory folder on the HD. After I trim, export, and rename them as keepers I delete the original .VOB's. I know there are other ways but I didn't want to have to buy any more equipment than I had to.
