Hey, Can someone please help me if they know what this Error means? I have burned a couple hundred copies of dvds with this sony dvd-r drive and all of a sudden, I am getting this error message at the very end of the burn process and I have no clue what it means. My only guess is that it wore out already?

"Burn Process Failed at 4x (5,540 KB/s)"

......Thank you....

Hi there,

Here's a few things very quickly:

Remove / edit out your serial # on top, before someone steels it !
Quote:
Nero API version: 6.3.1.19
Using interface version: 6.3.1.4
That is pretty old, the latest Nero version is v6.6.0.15a
Lots of fixes were done since !
Quote:
Recorder: <SONY DVD RW DRU-710A> Version: BY03 - HA 1 TA 1 - 6.3.1.19
Your firmware is outdated, the latest firmware for your burner is BYX4

Insert empty disc to write to.
(Medium in drive: unknown. Medium required by compilation: DVD+R/RW, DVD-R/RW, DVD+R9 Double Layer.)
What kind of media are you using ?
It doesn't know or like that brand of media.

VSO Inspector v1.1 --> http://www.vso-software.fr/

can tell you all that, media brand and media id !

DMA is OFF on one of your devices.
Try to put them all ON !

Try to free up some memory, don't run lots of background tasks when you burn.

When someone is having burning issues, I always suggest to test at the lowest speed, so try burning at 2x

There's a few things to do before you test again :)

Thanks a lot Cougar for the response! I edited my serial#, installed the latest Nero fine and and updated my firmware - BYX4 (although I can't tell if that is gonna be the one used or not, I saved it to my desktop).

I downloaded that Vos Inspector you told me to get, inserted my media (which is Taiyo Yuden White Printable DVD-R - I have had this media for a while now with no problems until now either), anyway, the inspector read the media, but it didnt tell me anything else about it? I'm not sure how to use this program to find out what I need...maybe you know?

Now I am following the instructions to turn my DMA on...

Ok, I just finished with the DMA mode and according to that link you gave me and the instructions, my DMA seems to be on? Also, I am burning at the slowest speed it lets me burn at, and I am not running anything else when I burn, knowing this can be a problem.

I guess if I delete some things on my computer, it might free up more memory, but I have a feeling this problem is related to the media all of a sudden.

Hi there,

If you start VSO Inspector, insert your media in your drive.

Then click on the little floppy on the top right, it will save all the information to a plain ascii file.

All you need to know is in there (On the screen too).

It will tell you what burner you have, what firmware, what's the media id of the media you just put in !

or you could try dvdinfopro~ is basically the same thing...i have this same drive as you atmos, WITH the BYX4 firmware..make sure you INSTALL it after downloading it :)

this will require a system restart once it's done...

other than that, cougar has done a very nice job in pinpointing your problem areas...you could also benefit from adding MORE memory/RAM to your computer if that is possible...256mb is workable, but i would recommend AT LEAST 512mb. :)

in terms of your media...using software media ID program will not ALWAYS give you the REAL facts about Taiyo Yuden media...this is where i have a LOT of experience...check the inner hub of your disc..for the DVD-R media, whether it's 4x or 8x, WILL have the GD000xxx or GG000xxx inscribed on the innermost part of the disc (it's difficult to see, but that will tell you if they are in fact AUTHENTIC or not..if your disc show something else, you got yourself some fake TYS- the "xxx" is 3 numbers that indicate the batch number)

Recommended Media:

Taiyo Yuden 4x dvd-r TYGO1/ 8x dvd-r TYGO2/ 8x dvd+r YUDEN000T02/ 16x dvd+r YUDEN000T03
Verbatim 8x dvd+r MCC003
Verbatim dvd+r DL (MKM001)= flawless no compression backups

Ok, if what you are saying is true, I think i got some fake Ty's :(
I did get everything working fine again once I installed the new firmware and new Nero, so... I guess next time I will just try to get the real discs, if it makes a difference. I only hope these last well. I got them off Supermediastore.com too, seemed legit.

hmm, the Inspector program seems to have identified the discs as TYG02 under Media type after I saved the information and took a screenshot.
