GSA-4163b Communication Failures

So... my LG 16x Super Multi DVD Writer reads DVD's and CD's but refuses to burn anything. The most recent Nero version says "Communication Failure" at 5 % and f***s up my blank cd's and dvd's. What I've tried to fix the problem:

-updated firware, windows update, bios/mobo drivers, changed jumper settings, tried different disc manufacturers

Nothing worked. My specs are:
AMD Duron 1,8 Ghz
768 MB of DDR400
ATI Radeon 9600 XT 256 MB
MSI KT4A-V mobo
LG GSA-4163b dvd-writer

Anyone know if this can be solved via software, or is the drive f*****d? On other forums I was told it could be VIA's IDE drivers, please help me.
