My friend got a PSP recently, so I told him I would help him try some things out since I'm a little more computer savvy. Anyways, here's my question: Do you think a PSP could play burned mini-DVD's? Here's what I would use it for: 1) movies (convert AVI's or maybe MPG's to mini-DVD)and 2) MP3's (data DVD's: 1.4 GB capacity is impressive for all of my songs!). Now, I know what you may say: why not get the peripherals (Memory Cards) and use those... 'Cause mini-DVD's are just that much cheaper (and I epitomize stinginess). Granted, I figure PSP's like its console counterparts, may not be capable of playing burned games (or maybe it could? I'm not saying it can't, so it's not my ambition to discourage your endeavors), but does it have some kind of engine to recognize mini-DVD's? Sort of how the PSX could play burned audio CD's, or the PS2 with burned DVD-R's? Thanks in advance for help, and I will make periodic checks for replies and potential clarification in case of any discrepancies in my inquiry.

the minidvd's are larger than the umd's, they wont fit, plus you need the casing to go aroung the disc.

ah, I didn't realize there was a separate format for PSP (though I'm not surprised). Sincerest apologies for such a noob mistake, but again, I don't actually own one myself, so how am I supposed to know? Thanks! BTW, they don't sell UMD blanks, do they?

sony said they weren't going to make a burner for it or release blank umds..but hopefully since the umd tech specs were released that another company will make a burner and i'm not sure if they own the complete rights to the disk but possible blank disc...but probably a long ways from now..if at all

Even if they did make a burner or blanks what good would it do. I mean look at the PSP its already packed maxed. No way a modchip or any other application could fit in it. But maybe an external modchip of some sort? Who knows.
