Dont know whats going on! The Burner will read CD's fine..just today it doesnt want to read Blank DVD's or Movies!! This is whats happening, I put the dvd in...you can start to hear the dvd drive spin it and try to read it...then while its spinning there is a weird grinding noise..only last about a second then stops. Until the burner try's to read again and then it grinds again.?????? All my firmware are updated, dont know whatelse to do! Tried cleaning lens with dvd cleaner cd! that didnt work! HELP
that is very odd, i have had that burner for a year now and it works great. try contacting Sony about the problem, they may be able to solve it for you. Does it have any warranty left on it?
Try doing a driver rollback,might help you out it could be a bad firmware flash.I know cdfreaks has a couple drivers for Sony Dru-700a burners not sure if they have it for 710a.
I had that same problem with my dvd drive in my laptop, it wouldn't ready dvd's but it would cd's, and i was told that the dvd part of the laser had burnt out.
i have the same burner and have replaced it once. about a month after i got it, it stopped reading disc and would read some but at like 2x. I took it back to staples (where i bought it) and they replaced it and have since had no problems. I had originally contacted sony and they had me download a utility to test it and it passed their test so they told me there was nothing that they could do. not sure what to tell you you can try sony maybe you would have better luck but i was also told that the laser may have burned out.
Just for some of you with this burner!! There is a bad batch of them out there! I contacted Sony and they said my dvd laser took a dump and they had many come in with the same problem. I've had mine for 7 months now, glad it did go because my 1 year warranty is up soon! Sony is replacing it with one equal or greater value free of charge!
