I have just purchased a new car mp3/cd player. I have never used a player in my car that supports mp3's. So anyway, I had about 50 songs which I converted to MP3 format easily enough and burned them to a blank CD-R (Memorex 52X) using nero 6 - going under the Audio Menu and choosing create mp3 CD. I followed the very simple instructions and finally got the CD burned with my MP3's.
Here's the kicker - when I put the newly burned CD into the car player, it did nothing. All it did was show up with one track that played for about 5 seconds with no sound.
I don't know much about playing mp3's through car players.
Does your car player support Mp3 for shure? If so, try burning the Mp3s again but this time just make a Data-CD instead of an Mp3-CD. See where that gets ya.
Yea I am 100% sure it supports them. I have tried burning as a data cd and it has made no difference. I have read of this sample problem happening on other threads but no-one seems to have a definite answer. Someone did mention something about Joliet but I don't quite understand what this is.
well after that... I have a couple of things to question. One, what type of media are you using (CD-R or CD-RW, not brand)? Most car audio player don't support CD-RW. Two, what where your encoder settings when you created your Mp3s (What Mp3 encoder did you use, LAME?)? Some Mp3 players don't properly support VBR encoded Mp3s. Also, most Mp3 players require the bit rate to be between 32 and 320 while the frequency (sample-rate) should be 44.1 KHz (CD quality).
Three, have you tried playing the disc(s) with another Mp3 player? If the discs work on another player then you know its something to-do with your automobile hardware. (Can you play them with your PC?)

Its an optical standard that allows MAC and Linux systems to read discs made by machines running Windows.
I don't see this as a problem as you created an Mp3-CD using Nero and it didn't work. Nero is the industry leader so I think your safe as far as format compatibility goes.
Make shure your disc(s) is/are finalizing after you burn them,

The car mp3 player definetly supports CD-RW and CD-R. Im not sure of the encoder settings when I converted the mp3's but I used Magix mp3 Maker - it seemed pretty straight forward. After I converted them, I kept them on my hard disk (they played perfectly) and after I burned them onto CD using Nero, they still worked.
Do you have a link to download LAME? And can you recommend the best overal settings I should encode my songs to? Also - I tried playing the disks on a home DVD player and they didn't work - the home DVD player definelty supports mp3's too. I also heard that using Itunes to encode/burn mp3's can be successful - is this true?
Yea alot of different burning apps can create good Mp3/Data-CDs. iTunes is one of them. It starting to sound like there could be something wrong with your disc or its format (they are finalized right!). Its strange that there would be only one track appering.
I recommend using a VBR scheme at either 192 or 256 Kbps (bit-rate). LAME is rediculously easy to get but I will provide a link this time, since your a newbie :)
