Hey guys,

I have a new PC with considerable hardrive space (400GB), but I am weary putting any games on my computer. Games take up considerable space, do they not? My brother's computer is not very old, and he must have 10 or 12 games on that thing, if not more, and it is laggy as hell. Of course that could be more from the spyware he has from other programs, such as Kazaa and junk, but I just don't know.

Do computer games affect computer performance, I guess that is my big question, or is it a combination of other things like spyware? Because I was thinking about buying an external hard drive for my computer games if I wanted to put junk like that on there. What do you guys think? Will having three or four games on my computer affect it's performance?

Another question... If I want to remove one game to put another on, want to completely wipe off all traces that the game was ever there, will that be difficult to do? I've seen all the stuff that computer games leave behind, scattered all over, and if that is the case I will have to deal with all that garbage as it piles up after I remove and install video games...

Anyhow thanks...

There could be a few factors causing the lag such as spyware but also fragmented files, the more stuff there is on a hdd the more fragmented it because all this means is the pc has to search around in different places on the hdd for the files which takes more time than it should, that's were defragging comes in it rearranges all the files into order which allows the PC to read the files in order, speeding up the read time.

Most of the time when you uninstall a game you have to go into the program files and delete the game folder to remove all traces.

aye aye man

I use mine for work, but, well there is the odd game. Like the previous post said defrag. Better still you should use partitions, 1 for Linux or Win, 2 for proper apps, 3 for data, and others for the odd game. Your disks will last longer also

I have about 40 games on my PC not to mention about 30 backup dvds. The trick is to have a dual RAID SETUP for your OS and games. It seems to make the performance go way up. Another thing you can do is install your games onto a second HD. Always do weekly FRAGMENTATIONS on your drives. It will keep them fresh and fast.
