Hi all, as you probably know, im not exactly a beginner at this. However, a movie called Spanglish has me stumped a bit, and its been so long since iv had to manually edit a movie.
Here's the story, DVD Shrink gets the normal errors and cant proceed. I've tried allt he remedies with that to no avail, and have since moved on to DVD Decrypter, the latest version.
Can rip the whole DVD, or movie only files no problem. However, they are larger than will fit on a standard 4.7GB DVD and im not one for using Dual layer yet - cant be arsend really though iv got a DVR109 writer. So, i did the normal thing, try to process it with TMPGEnc DVD Author. THats fine, but for some reason it only takes the first 17 chapters and there are 28 of them, so im left with nearly half of a movie just. Can for the life of me get the rest of it.
Now im moving on to IFOEdit, but i aint got a clue how to use it, its been years since i looked at.
Here's where im at:
VTS_01_0.VOB - 565 MB
VTS_01_1.VOB - 1,049 MB
VTS_01_2.VOB - 1,049 MB
VTS_01_3.VOB - 1,049 MB
VTS_01_4.VOB - 1,049 MB
VTS_01_5.VOB - 840 MB
I want to create files that will allow me to open it in DVD Shrink, ie the VIDEO_TS files.
Thanks
Chris

hiya, i couldn't remember how i did this one, i think i used just DVD Decrypter on it's own, then DVD Shrink as per any normal film out there. However i may have used vobblanker on the files that decrypter created, sorry can't remember exactly. i visited here again - http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/1/178337 and left again quickly as that movie has generated almost as much hassle around here as Hitch has :)

just use decrypter and save it as a disc image then with no encryption remaining, just load the disc image with DVD Shrink and bobs yer uncle, not my uncle tho

Just ripped this one using DVD Decrypter in file mode, and then DVD Shrink to backup whole disk, or re-author and do movie only.
Or you can try the trial of AnyDVD run it in the background using Shrink.

Hi guys, thanks for the replies. Id have no problems backing this up normally. My problem is that DVD Shrink wont do it, DVD Decrypter wont create the ISO, DVD Shrink wont take the files that DVD Decrypter outputs, and i cant get TMPGEnc DVD Author to read more than 2/3rds of the disc for somereason. So, what i need is someone to explain to me how i create a DVD compliant file using a program like IFOEdit or something that will make the files i need.
SO far all i have are these:
VTS_01_0.VOB - 565 MB
VTS_01_1.VOB - 1,049 MB
VTS_01_2.VOB - 1,049 MB
VTS_01_3.VOB - 1,049 MB
VTS_01_4.VOB - 1,049 MB
VTS_01_5.VOB - 840 MB
Thanks
Chris

Oriphus: It has been a while since I ripped Spanglish and I know it is one with the newer protection schemes. I ripped it with DVD Decrypter in ISO mode and then used shrink from there. Shrink by itself will not work.
It sounds like you might have a bad original disk since you are getting over half thru and then it stopping. If so, then TMPGEnc won't help you either. You might want to try a different original disk...
P.S. Many thanks for the help you gave me in the past

THanks for the reply Laboy, and no probs for any previous help, we're all resources to everyone.
On the disc front, i had come to the conclusion that it is a disc with an error on it, be it a physical one or something else. I took steps to enable me to get the full disc onto the computer, and now what i want to do is to strip all the menus etc, and create new VTS files for the VOB's.
The DVD itself will play fine on the PC (the files that i ripped onto the PC) and all of it is there. So, it shouldnt be too much of a problem to get the rest of it working.
Any other help would be greatly appreciated
Thanks
Chris
