I'm having an issue with my sony DRU720a burning dvd's. I've had the drive for about a month now and have made probably somewhere around 35 or 40 dvd copies. Yesterday i was burning and the electricity went off while i was in the middle of the burn. And since i havn't been able to burn anything using Nero. I have the latest firmware on the dvd drive, latest nero, reinstalled windows and nero after this happened. been using the same media but am getting the below error log. I also went to sony's website and got a drive check program and it seems to have an error with that program where it won't finish burning. Here is the nero log

- 256MB is insufficient for Windows XP, never mind dvd work on top. get more memory, your hard disc will be 'swapping'

you can but try...

not sure if you can do an 'eeprom reset' on that particular drive. do a search on afterdawn, then on google, it gets mentioned a fair bit..

I was able to find my old firmware on the net and reflashed it to the original factory firmware. and then tried to burn using Nero again. and again i came up with the same error. It doesn't seem to be the Nero software because the drive check utility from sony won't write either. Any suggestions?

I had the same issue with Nero and my Sony 710A burner and DVD-R discs. It would write to DVD+R no problems.

The problem was I also had Roxio Easy CD/DVD creator installed. I know that it and Nero does not sit well on the same PC togather. So I finally uninstalled Roxio. Pow! No more illegal disc errors on DVD-R discs.

If you have Roxio perhaps this may also be your issue.

Thanks, i formatted my hdd and started over from scratch and still had the error. so it's not a software issue, i called sony and they had me try some things and finally came to the conclusion to return the dvd drive to them. SO hopefully i will get another drive and not have this problem. I know it couldn't be the media because i was using the same blank media to burn copies, probably a total of 75 discs before it started acting up.
