This will tell all of you who have been searching and searching for ways to convert your .mp3s to .at3s (atrac3). The only thing is you'll need a sony memory stick duo. DON'T WORRY though, all you fans with Sandisk, you can still do it too, as long as you also have a sony mem stick duo. Make sure it's not a pro duo either. So all you Americans who bought the value pack will be fine with your 32mb stick. Now on to the tutorial.

Download sony sonicstage 3.1 from this link:

http://www.download.com/Sony-Connect-SonicStage-/3000-2141_4-1040...

Once you've installed the program, run it. Then plug in your psp, put it in usb mode, and click "transfer" then "Memory Stick". If you have the correct memory stick in (a sony memstick duo(of any size)) you should be able to click the "settings" box inbeetween your library and your psp. First up once you click the settings box, tick the "use atrac3 only" option. Then tick the "standard transfer mode" option. Then click "Advanced". Under "standard transfer settings" select the "ask each time" option. DO NOT TICK ANYTHING in the "Converted files when transferring" box. Tick the "Include additional information when transferring tracks" box. Then click "OK". Then click "OK" again. Now select your song and click the arrow pointing right. If you want good quality go for a higher bit rate,if you want to take up less space go for a lower bit rate. Once you've chosen click OK.

Only read the next part if you want to get the atrac3s onto a different pro duo stick or a sandisk, lexar, etc. Once you've put a few songs on your sony mem stick duo, or however many you want, go to my computer. click your psp. open up another my computer. go to your local disk. copy the atrac3 file or files over to your hard disk. then disconnect your psp. keep the local disk folder open. stick whatever memstick you want in your psp. Go to my computer. select your psp. copy the files back over from the local disk and you will have your .at3 (atrac3) on your stick. FINALLY!!!!

What would be a benefit from changing an mp3 to at3?

Nice! Thanks for the tut, however, when I look in the memory stick I notice that it doesn't make one at3 file but several files. I wanted to make a super mario at3 file so I can load it with Nester so I looked at the biggest file, and renamed it to *.at3. I unpacked the pbp, extracted the param.sfo file and remade the EBOOT.PBP and added the *.at3 file I had encoded and renamed. Going to the emu though, there was no sound :(. Any info would be helpful, thanks

Liez4Love The benefit of making the mp3 into an at3 is that atrac files are much more smalled so you can fit more on your memory stick

tayshun12: nope, not a problem. It's the same firmware I have. I've solved my problem btw about making an at3 file.

Get Goldwave, record whatever file you want. Save it as *.wav, and choose the bottom menu until ATRAC 3 is there. Once it creates the file it'll have a *.wav extension. Open up a command prompt and rename it into an *.at3 file.

Start>Run>cmd
prompt appears

type: ren *.wav *.at3
(note: this wildcard will rename every wave file and rename it to an at3 file)

Add it into the EBOOT and run it :).

Forgot to mention I can copy it to a Sandisk Pro Duo 1 gig stick also ;)
