Hello,

I hope someone can help me!
I am new at this whole torrent scene (however I have a good understanding of how it works)and I am in need of some assistance!

I have a 1mb connection using Motorola Surfboard SB5100, and have recently started to use Azureus and Shareaza.

The problem is that I am unsure as to what settings to use - e.g
Upload
Download
and ports etc.

I am currently getting between 1-15 KB/sec down and about the same up.

I have searched all over and am hearing a lot of conflicting things.

Could someone kindly talk me through this? I am prepared to just stick to one client as long as it works!

Just to clarify i am on SP1 and use Sygate and have turned off XP firewall!

Is Sygate the issue??

Please help!

p.s - We all start somewhere!

ok, step one

1. only use Azureus - tell shareaza to fuke off - its crap.

2. wot tracker/torrents are u using - eg, where from?

3. open a port like 6969 in your firewall and use it for azureus

4. download - use 0 so its unlimited

5. upload - im guessin u have a limit of either thirty kbps or 15 kbps - limit accordingly... if u have it at thirty - limit to 20-25, if its 15 limit to ten - etc.

6. post back.

:D

I have the exact same problem with the exact same hardware.

On an average day I can get around 135k/s download speeds off websites, so I expect the same sorts of speeds on bittorrent... except that I have the yellow light thing and I get NAT errors. My firewall isn't an issue because I can completely diable it and yet I still get the errors. I also have Azureus set up so that everything is as it should be... on a normal system I should be getting my mximum speeds... but I'm not. For an example of where I get my bit torrents, I like downloading Diggnation from diggnation.com

I hope someone comes up with a solution. I too am having the same problems with the same hardware. All I have is the surfboard cable modem, no seperate router. My firewall is zonealarm, but turning it off makes no difference so it's not a firewall issue. Most of the time Azureus gives me green faces, so I don't really have a NAT issue either. However if I go to a site that tests my upload speed it says I'm uploading at 126KBs which is about normal since my ISP (Optimum Online)says my upload max is 1MB or 128kbs. However as soon as I try to upload to peers via Azureus, Azureus is reporting a measly upload speed of only 16kbs? I've tried all sorts of suggested changes so far to no avail :(

I too have this same problem. I used to have a Terayon modem, but it was problematic and shut off randomly. I returned it, and they my ISP gave me the new Motorola Surfboard SB5120. With my old modem I could easily get speed of up to 150kbps on a well seeded torrent, but now I cant get anywhere above 10kbps. My upload used to be regularly at 40-50kbps, now it hangs around 5kbps. At first I though it was a faulty modem, but they gave me a new one and still the same problem. This is really starting to annoy me, as I get really terrible download speeds with the modem. Is it possible that the modem would be blocking BitTorrent traffic in some way?

Anyone have any ideas?

I might have to switch ISP's or maybe buy a new modem.
