does the bios see the drive? is it jumpered correctly with the other drive? have you reseated the data & power cables? is there an exclamation mark in device manager?

if both drives are on the same cable than you have the jumpered the same. if d: drive is your main drive than it is actually c: not d:. take a look at the jumpers on both drives to as c: drive should be set as master & the burner is set as the slave. this is all done by moving a black, white or red jumper at the back of the drive from 1 position to the other position. on the hd it will be printed on top of the drive. on the burner it is stamped on the backend of the drive.

if the d:drive is on the same cable as your c:drive than both drives are jumpered the same so rejumper them so that c: is master & d: is slave.

it is supposed to be this way
ide1 - c: hd master
ide2 - d: master e: slave
did you change the the autodetect in the bios so it sees the hd on ide2 instead of ide1. also why change the hd to ide2 from ide1 because your system is set for the hd to be on ide1 & is faster than on ide2.

try this, disconnect all ide drives except the hd than do an autodetect to see which ide cable it is on the whether master or slave. once that is done & the hd is on the primary cable as master than do the same on ide2(secondary) to see if the dvd burner is master than again with the cd burner as slave

in the bios, it is either standard configuration or something like that or auto detect drives

that is what i am trying to do as your computer appears to be built wrong as c: as in your hd is supposed to be the main drive not d:!! trying to do is set it up as the right standard way not the wrong way that your computer was setup!
