I have burned several video DVDs based on mpeg files using Nero 6.6 Ultra - primarily using, NVE.
These dvds play fine on cinePlayer and WinDVD. They play poorly in my GoVideo DP8440. These Nero burned discs play with occasional blocky artifacts, skips, blank outs (screen goes blank with a little color along the edges of screen), and when you move the screen back and forth the image blanks in and out. None of this happens with commercial DVDs.
Other DVD's that I have burned (same burn machine) - using Sonic MyDVD 6 and its 'direct capture to disc' feature from a VHS source - play fine on the DP8440. No I haven't burned a home brew disc with MyDVD (other than VHS captures) because MyDVD doesn't support some of the files I wish to burn - hence why I got Nero.
I have used the same media on all burns (maxell 8x dvd-r)
Where do I start looking? What things should I try.....
You are going to get the same answer from allot of people. Some of them will have a little more technical Jargen and know allot more then I do but.
1. Your media. Taiyo Yuden DVD-R get it.
2. Turn your burn speed down
3. Make sure you do not do anything while the comp is transcoding and burning.
I made these changes and now have flawless burn after burn. good Luck.
media should be ok - 'cause the same media works fine using Sonic. But, what does 'Taiyo Yuden' mean? A media manu, I presume. I am just about out of the 50stack roll - so...worth a shot.....
Burn speed could be something to check - which I will do re-test that shortly - I believe it is on 'auto' in Nero/NVE.
And I seldom do much - if anything while tcoding and burning. I can see the burning part (i.e. starving DVD of cpu during burns).
But tcoding? Wouldn't doing other stuff just slow down tcoding but not affect its quality/output......then again, if that made a difference - it is worth a shot....
yup, your media should be ok. You probably just need to tweak some settings. post your Nerovision log, i think it's in c:\program files\ahead\nerovision\nerovision.txt or maybe in c:\documents and settings\<username>\etc etc etc , but DO NOT post your serial number, which usually begins with '1A21' or similar
burning at lower speed gives less chance for error (just because a burn completes successfully doesn't mean it's successful, ie the resulting movie can still skip/freeze even though burn says successful)
Yes but the specs on your computer will sometimes dictate how fast your can burn. I weak system will have trouble keeping up with a 8x burn compared to a fast system.

Anytime I try to set my Nero to something other than auto, it defualts to 4X. Is there any way to fix this?
