I am not sure if I am posting this in the right forum but here is my problem. I can play normal dvd's that I have copied using decrypter and xcopy. I have some avi's and mpegs I have downloaded from the net. I have tried avi2dvd and it works fine but I can't play the dvd's in either of my home players. I have taken the files it creates and opened them in decrypter and in shrink and all seems to work fine but they won't play in the players. What is the difference in ripping a movie I have versus burning a downloaded movie. ANy ideas on what I am doing wrong?

Hi there,

Ripping a movie, keeps the DVD format files .IFO/.VOB

Downloaded movies .MPG / .AVI / .WMV are not in the proper format.

They will need to be converted.

VSO DivXtoDVD --> http://www.vso-software.fr/
can do that, and avi2dvd also as you mentioned.

Once converted, to have a DVD player play them, there's a few rules to obay.

DVD must contain 2 directories: AUDIO_TS & VIDEO_TS
Those .ifo/.vob files have to be in the VIDEO_TS dir.

When burning the media, make sure you FINALIZE the disk.

For best results, (Unless you have Taiyo Yuden, Verbatim, BEST QUALITY MEDIA) I suggest burning at 2x or 4x on cheaper media !

Does that pretty much answer it, or you still have questions ?
