welcome to the forum :)

1- Plead read the topics on the tops, most of your doubts are answered there
2- At this momment you can not downgrade your firmware to 1.5 o 1.00, i suggest that you go back to the store and let them switch for another vers as i did :) :)
3- I'll suggest that you read first the topic on how to use SEI PSP Tool in order to install your hombrews, emus, loaders, etc, it will give you an idea on how to star understanding the world of the psp.

look at the serial number on the box and look for one that has a capital A under the serial. those are 1.50 psp's. if it has a B it's 1.51
