Hi, recent user of the bittorrent scene. New computer, xp user and mostly use bitlord or azureus mainly. My question is regarding my current download speeds. I have a 2meg connection and speeds are usually very good 180kb+ occasionally. However, recently just out of the blue my speeds have dropped, now with i struggle to download anything at all. Some of the torrents are 4500+ health with less leechers than seeders etc but i still cant get above 3-9kb on any. I virus checked with both norton & avg and even ran ad-aware etc mainly because ive noticed recently also that it can often say the my download speed is 1kb on the torrent itself but the overall speed can often hold at 3-4kb (not inc up)even though the download size is not illustrating this. Thinking back the only things i downloaded leading up to this problem were peerguardion, k-lite codec pack, possible service updates, & possibly a java update. I know ur going to mention peerguardion but this is happening even with it disabled. Other internet usage is fine but im confused by this. If any one mentions ports could you please explain it simple as ive never had to deal with this area before, after all it was working great.

thanks

Ports...Ports...what a wonderful world. Ports are basically the highway for files to travel back and forth. Without ports being opened and forwarded (if needed) to the right location travel on the highway is low.

It could be that your ISP has blocked one or some of the ports you are using. No that doesn't mean they are watching your activity. It's just that some organizations block certain ports access to the company servers for several reasons. What you need to do is find alternative ports for the program(s) you are using and see if your speeds change.

With that being said, you listed a couple but what program do you prefer for downloading/uploading torrents?

I usually search portforward.com for port advice to give or a couple other locations but I've seen nothing about BitLord. You could change applications? :)

I did see something on dslreports.com. Maybe you can read through this link and find some answers.
