We usually see this when your burner doesn't like your media.

Try a different brand of media
*OR*
update the firmware on your drive, maybe a new firmware will help to recognize those Sony Media.

See if A187 is the latest firmware for your burner !
The name is very generic, I'm not even sure who makes that drive !

If you drive is a DRW1016AM, A187 is the latest firmware.

It's BTC Drive ?

Seen this happen with cheap media.
Use the "Search" button on top and search for "Power calibration error" there's been a few threads on this !

When troubleshooting burning problems, I always suggest burning at 2x

Updating this thread. I've got the same DVD writer. It isn't a Nero-related problem. I've used Nero, Easy CD Creater, and 3 other free dvd writing programs. None of them worked. The company that makes it, Dynex, doesn't know much, either. They will not provide any fixes for the perfectly working drive(reminds me of Sony saying the PSP is perfect and perfect should not be changed).

I'm checking out the Firmware solution now. It will take awhile to download, but when it's done, I'll modify this post with the answer.

[edit]The stuff provided in the links didn't work. I looked on my own, but I couldn't find anything to make the dvdrw work. I suggest getting anything else in the world but this. If you are stuck with it, take it to where it was bought, or send it to the manufacturer. They might be able to give your money back.[/edit]

@masterc - I see similar generic drives crop up quite a lot around here and to be honest they don't seem very good, in addition to the fact that they're a right royal pain to find correct firmware for, but quite a few of us still drill down into the Nero logs as more often than not there are setting that need tweaking as well as just (maybe) replacing the burners. But I personally would never buy such drives myself
