Alright, I'm having some pretty big problems with my cable connection. First of all, here's the basic info that I know about.

I own a Motorola SBV5120 SURFboard Cable Modem
With a Linksys WRT54G Wireless Router.

I just installed the latest firmware for the router.

I've tried reinstalling the router several times, and the modem as well.

I randomnly get connection drops, many sites will simply not respond on my desktop computer, which is connected to the router with an Ethernet cable. However, my laptop, which is on a wireless connection, gets a more stable, stronger signal that my desktop does, which leads me to believe it's a problem with my Ethernet cable.

What would be the best solution? Get a new Ethernet cable, get a new Ethernet Network Card (I don't know the terminology), what?

If you ask me a question, you're probably going to have to explain how to find the answer to me, I'm not very technologically advanced (Compared to most people on this site at least)

try replacing the cable 1st as is the easiest & cheapest but remember get straight thru not cross over cable as they look the same but the cross over has the wires switched around

The new cable didn't work at all.

I can't figure out what's wrong with this thing. Even my Xbox, which is hooked up to the router with another ethernet cable, lags on Xbox Live.

Most online games I can't connect to, the latest being Anarchy Online >.<

try bypassing the router to see if there is a better & faster connection.
