If you are going to pay go With Either:

1) Itunes (http://www.apple.com/itunes/affiliates/download/)
2) Napster (http://www.napster.com)
3) Real Rhapsody (http://www.real.com/rhapsody)
4) Walmart (http://musicdownloads.walmart.com/)

..these are all truly legal and legitimate.

Warning
Don't Go with Any of the Services such as:

RealMusicNow - realmusicnow.com
Mp3MusicLive - mp3musiclive.com
KazaaGold - mykazaagold.com
MP3Advance - mp3advance.com
kliteTK - klite.tk

etc...

All of these products are simply paid clients that operate on open source (free) networks. It's like a homeless guy standing next to the onramp of your local freeway asking you for a toll.

You get the exact same network (gnutella) as some of them, for free, by using limewire (www.limewire.com) for example.
