Coasters (bad burns) have been a thing of the past for me with hardware upgrades etc., but I am new to burning CD Extra instead of plain Audio CD's.

To save disk space I want to move my MP3, MPC, OGG, and APE source files, along with a JPG off my hard drive an into the data portion of a Nero CD Extra, with the CDA wav files "created from the MP3 or whatever source files" in the audio section.

This will save me the trouble of converting the .wav's back to mp3 etc. if I ever need to do it, and also I would assume converting back and forth will result in even worse quality MP3 files.

Some of my stereo equipment doesn't play MP3, much less APE, MPC, OGG so the CDA wav Audio file conversion is necessary. I don't listen to all my music on the computer.

I ALSO WANT CD-Text so I must burn this CD Extra as DISC AT ONCE.

(The CD-Text does get burnt but Roxio 5 Jewel Case Creator seems to ignore it and do a CDDB lookup anyhow).

I am having success but create a Coaster maybe 20% of the time.

I get an error message:

Illegal Mode For This Track

Actually the Coasters are not really Coasters, I can play them like they were plain Audio compilations but the MP3 source files and jpg don't seem to get written.

I reburn the same compilation and USUALLY I succeed on the second attempt, and 80% of the time I finish on the first try and don't have to try again.

Maybe CD Extras are just more difficult to burn...

WHAT IS (Mode2-XA). Is there an alternative and where is the setting?

I'm switched from DEFAULT to force "Temp File Stragey" and will see if that helps.

Are the DATA and PICTURE folders that appear automatically in the data section (when you burn a CD Extra) sacred?

I put my .JPG in the Picture Folder. I CREATE another folder, MP3, or MPC or whatever for my source files.

Wondering if the file path length on my PC, source files from different folders, MP3 File Name Lengths, or amount of CD-Text I type in or Artist and Title could have any effect.

I dropped my 40 DVD+- CD Burner back to 24x. PC is 3.2ghz with 1gig Ram, but I'm running a P2P app while I burn.
