I too have this recurring problem but with an unusual twist the external drive pioneer dvr109 d/l works ok from my desktop but fails every time from my laptop.
Running same OS xp sp2
upgr to same nero
equipment purchased as pair same type NEC and age?
turned off the high compatability
rezeroed before burn with decrypter
still the same message
switched to r/w media as have enough coasters now
any ideas would be appreciated

idiot me wanted to reply to the ( error burning with ext dvd writers usb2 ) scsi command aborted thread
but it appeared here on its own
obviously a newbie

any way I fixed my problem today by ditching the usb cable and putting in the firewire one
i could tell straight away the burn was going to be successful
Luckily I bought a combo unit that supports both
so in my case there must be a subtle difference in the way the USB is supported
both systems says usb enhanced
maybe this could help someone in getting to the root cause
i have never had anything like this occur before and i use all sorts of usb peripherals
