Hello everyone, I have recently purchased a NEC 3540 from newegg and havnt recieved it yet. I today for the first time found out about lightscribe technology. My question is what should I go with. Should I keep the NEC or return it to newegg and get one of those cool lightscribe burners. Im looking for quality as i back up my dvd's and my ps2 games. what are the real differnces between the NEC and lets say a benq lightscribe burner. While I know preference is probably a big factor but what would you choose?

i would personally stick with the nec drive you just bought...while lightscribe technology is quite facinating and "cool", it is not FULLY developed yet and there are still some improvements to be made to it~

i have a nec3520a, the model right before yours, and it is a very solid, reliable, great drive; i am currently using official firmware, even though there are so many modified firmwares available for it, it does the job just fine with official firmware for me and my uses (it's on my 2nd computer, just want reliable/stable burns, no need for me to "tweak" on my 2nd computer).

that's just MY opinion, i have never owned a lightscribe drive but it does have some potential in the future and i might pick one up later, but for now, i stick with what i know and the nec is a GREAT quality drive that doesn't break the bank/ your wallet~ :)
